Gash, didn't think so. Looks like it'll be a Sky Sports News job then or if I'm lucky enough, I'll be able to get on here.

Who has their birthday on the first game of the season?

What's the range of Brunel? I used to be able to pick up BBC Swindon in Bristol (just), and will be in Bicester when we play Northampton (groan!).

Reckon I'll be able to pick it up?

You can pick up BBC Wiltshire miles the other side of Bristol and they usually had Town games on.

No chance from Bicester. Then doubt you'd have got BBC Swindon from there either.

Yes you could get BBC Swindon in Bicester.  My office is in Bicester and I regularly listen to them on the way there and the way home.  Admittedly the reception is not wonderful but you could get it!

Positives first, Brunel did cover the game.  They had occasional 'live' updates plus half time and full time reports.  Also, I picked it up easily enough from Witney and Eynsham, which would have been a pleasant surprise if the output was any good.

However, it was embarrassing.  I trust it's not all singing and dancing just yet, but it consisted of a giggly bint (City fan) in the studio larking about with the half-wit at the ground - "I think City deserved to win, but Swindon deserved a draw.....".

I've been reasonably open-minded about the change, until now.  If like me, you live a cosy and sheltered life and are not used to how terrifyingly banal local commercial radio is, prepare to be shocked.  Do not expect to be able to expose yourself to a whole match in one go.  Conditioning is going to take time:  I'm hoping to manage 30 minutes of the Exeter game, but fear that this short pre-season has left me cruelly undercooked for the horrors that lie ahead.

On the other hand, if you're under five and like your football coverage just a little bit simple, go ask your parents to put the bunting up, you're in.

I remember GWR doing live updates one season and it was pain inducing.  They always managed to have a presenter on who didn't like football who would proceed to make an arse of himself and you'd have to listen to the 9 minutes of adverts every hour - bearing in mind that the big companies don't really spend much on weekend radio so you end up with the ruddy local pine shop ad's being repeated over and over.

I didn't even last long enough to stay listening for an update when I tuned in to see if they were covering it in the 2nd half.

You can get a great BBC Swindon signal at Bicester North Station. Not much use these days though.

Im just going to try and get to as many games as possible to avoid listening to the crock of shit that is Brunel FM.

I'd rather the occasional update from Jeff Stelling On SS if I can't make a game!
