Arsene Wengers company (the one he had a stake in) practically killed off a club in Belgium IIRC by using it to showcase African players, sending on the best ones to Arsenal or others and making the company profit.  The downside is, the club makes nothing, loses it's identity and when the talent passes on struggles to be anything as it's whole set-up has changed.

It is a little odd that the trialists all seem to be foreign.  It doesn't have to be bad thing, but if it's something to rejoice over then why not make it public?

There is another aspect of course, is showcasing talent what we want our club to be?

That's the one Rob, the whole side is made up entirely of Ivorian players, which the Arse ship in to Belgium due to their relaxed immigration laws.

Can’t see a similar situation here though as the UK work permit system is fairly brutal when it comes to footballers by comparison of other nations.  There’s always the old colonies who are still entitled to British residency but I can’t really see there being a roaring trade in Easter Island players.  To busy buggering their sisters.

It's possible that the 'scouts' are completely unconnected. I'm not saying they are, or it's more than likely, just that it could be the case.

If and as Si said it's still a big if the investors are agents of the foreign players we have on trial then then FA rules came into place last year that they have to be registered with FIFA and the FA to act for players at English clubs.

There are 309 names to pluck out of arses available here…

No Castros mind.

There's also this on the Camberley Town forum (it's been a slow day)...

Quote

Spoke to Rufus on Wednesday night. He is part of the consortium investing in Swindon Town and want him to go there as a 'sporting director'. The details of the story are correct but nothing has yet been finalised. As quite often with sports stories, the papers jump the gun and print before it happens. Rufus intends on taking the job. He also said to me that he also intends to stay with us as well as he is impressed with our set up and that the swindon job will still leave most of his evenings free once everything gets settled.

Wish they'd fucking hurry up and invest or just piss off. To be honest, how much are they going to learn from due diligence anyway? There's no way Diamond Mike will show them the actual books.

It could be that this waiting period is the investors trying to sort out the current lot's efforts at accounts. I reckon that could take a few weeks. Not the ideal time of course, but I'm trying to stay positive.

i too had been told that rufus will continue to play for camberley town, which i found a bit odd considering a scout would surely be watching future opponents on saturday's and mid-week?!

I cant see this deal going through.

Football agents (mega greed) + Mike Diamandis (mega greed) = no deal.

Camberley Town play just a couple of miles up the road from here.  I might head over there and ask Rufus a few questions myself.

If the 'showcase club' rumours do turn out to be true, I'm really not that sure I'm going to maintain much of an interest.  For me, STFC exists for its own sake.  I support the club because I want STFC to be a successful club in its own right - and for no other reason.

If such a deal goes through, the primary aim of STFC will be to blood these players in the English league and to make money for football agents.  Why would I want to support that?  Success on the pitch would become a secondary consideration...an afterthought, almost.  It would kill things for me.

Same as Ardiles, but we are getting several steps ahead of ourselves for the minute.

I totally agree ardiles! If the showcase rumours are true then i could no longer support STFC as i could not support what would be happening at the club and i will no longer be interested, it would be the end of STFC!

Surely there would be alot of protests if this was to happen?

Dunno, if people decided they couldn't support the team they'd probably just do something else on a Saturday, rather than protest.

I know I won't be wasting my time protesting anymore.
