Okay, It's summer again and being a wally I'm thinking of getting another tattoo...  Am thinking of my surname across my back in Arabic.  Is this a stupid idea, or would it look okay?  Basically, I'm looking for people to talk me out of it but currently I'm pretty dead set in the idea.  I've already got Japanese on my left arm for "loyalty" - don't ask - so I've caught the bug.  Unfortunately, I can't find anywhere online that'll translate my surname into Arabic....  In case anyone speaks Arabic, my surname is Sterrett - any help?!

(My first name is Paul, so I have to confess to cuming a little when I hear "Paul Sterrett's Barmy Army!")

Names in languages with a different script from your own sounds a bit boring/generic/done to me. If I were to get a tattoo it would have to be something which meant something to me as an individual, or some sort of statement that I might later regret.

I thought about song lyrics but thast seems somehow gay....  I want something biggish across back of me shoulders though, and me name seemed the obvious choice...  Like a football shirt, that I can never take off.  Maybe I'll get number "9" done as well?!  Not that I've ever played up front like...

To me that sounds like the gayest tattoo ever. Your name in Arabic made to look like a football shirt? Why the Japanese one you've already got or Arabic? Do you have any relationship with either cultures or is it just a thing of it looking cool? If it's a fashion thing then going on the current tattoo fad seems a bit silly to me. Fashions change.

Of course getting a tattoo is always going to be about making a statement, be it of style or something deeper that you believe in. Which with the permanence thing makes the style thing harder to judge. I suppose with the language thing you're safer as they'll be a lot of other people with the same tattoos as time goes on.

Actually. I'm doing a 180, get what you want, right this moment. I've always been well for the spur of the moment decisions, but tattoos are a scary 2-edged sword for that. With the long term thing and all.

Anyone up for a TEF tattoo?

im with ben on this one, i dont really like names etc, but at the end of the day a tattoo is a personal thing, it doesnt matter what people think (opinions are good by all means) but at the end of the day its going to be on your body, no one elses so its what you think that matters.

whatever you do, dont rush into things, i got my first tatto abuot 3 years ago, and since then i have just wanted more but i haven't what i do is i get a design i like, i leave it a while and go back to it after say a month, if i still 110% want it i would go do it, if i am haveing even the smallest doubt i scrap it.

I think what Chubbs said makes sense.  Whilst its a personal think I think depending on what sort of career you want for yourself it's pertinent to think where you're gonna be tattooed - certainly in my experience you have to be quite careful with tattoos that can be seen with 'normal clothes' as many employers are none to keen on them.

Just think long and hard how good it will look when you 70 yrs old and wrinkled.

When I was younger I fancied getting a tatto on the top of my back with the outline of Scotland with the Saltire and Lion Rampant flag crossed beneath it, never bothered in the end and am pretty glad.

Would have loved the tat but would like to have the choice of erasing it at a later date without the scars/pain of laser treatment.

How about a tattoo of my face? But on my chest? Yeeeahhh, double me. Feel it!

Was thinking about getting a Chinese dragon on one of my shoulder blades a month or so back. Then I realised it would probably make me look even gayer*

so now I'm getting both shoulders done

Really can't decide - main problem is I can't find a website to translate my name so the tattooist could write what he likes on me back!  I think I will go ahead and get something done as I've caught the bug, plus it'll make me look hard init...   :D
