without looking was this the one where steve froggatt scored a screamer Was this the CC cup game where we had an injury crisis at the back, caused in the main by only having 2 recognised first team centre halves , and decided that the best solution was not to promote Adie Viveash from the reserves, but to play Dave Mitchell at the back. If so then I remember nothing about it, as I unexpectedly stayed in Bristol the night before, failed to take my anti convulsents, arrived back in town 5 minutes before kick off, failed to take my morning tablet as well, stood on the Stratton Bank long enough to see the players run out and then everything went a bit weird and I bounced down the terrace on my head. Came to at half time with the St.Johns, walked home and watched the 2nd half on TV. And we fucking lost!

Can't remember much about the cup game other than: ** The Froggatt screamer, ** GWR giving away selection packs (it was near christmas) for saying "it'll be a doddle for Hoddle" ** Jimmy Hill getting shit from the fans and the commentry portacabin being pelted with maltesers from said selection pack ** About 40 Villa in the Bank including my then mate Andy Appleby (villa tosser)

I've not watched the clip yet but I remember it well. Villa needed a draw to go up and not surpisingly, they brought an absolute squadron of fans down. The grass bit out the back of the Shrivvy Road Stand was packed full of Villa fans before the game. We'd had a perfectly respectable first season back in the second division as it still was then and there was nothing on the game for us. It was a pretty close game with not that many chances for either side. It ended up 0-0 which sent Villa up. I do remember Andy Gray (the -dare I say it- black one as opposed to the Jock cunt ) being absolutely immense in that game. Graham Taylor was manager for them at the time. Happy days

I remember being there; sitting right next to the Villa Fans in the North Stand; they were nervous as hell all thoughout the match and as the report says; they had to wait for ages after the match had ended to see if they were up or not.
I remember BBC News showing highlights that evening too; and saying not many Swindon fans had turned up as it was a nothing match for them (showing the Stratton Bank!). The North Stand; Town end and Shrivenham Rd were pretty full but I'm sure the reporter hadn't even been there and was only commenting on the pictures he could see.

Happy days I may be wrong, but I thought it wasn't definite that Villa would make it, but it was dependent to some extent on results elsewhere.....I think it was Bradford City and MBoro in the shake and they both screwed up, so Villa's point was enough....maybe they needed the win to guarantee promo. Why am I posting about football matches, rather than politics?

That's right. The Villa fans and players were waiting around after the game to find out the result of the Boro and Bradford games which becomes apparent if you watch the clip :nono:
