Oooh! oooh! oooh! I've got another, the 2-2 draw against Russia (86 was it? or 90?) When those two clowns collided on the half way line and the Russian strolled through to score. Funny as f***! 86 - Denmark 1-0, West Germany 2-1, Uruguay 0-0. 90 Costa Rice 0-1, Sweden 2-1, Brazil 0-1? 92 Euro92 - Germany, Russia, Holland. We beat Russia 3-0 though.

"1 round further than Scotland I think" Rich
Well done Rich. Extremely impressive seeing as though that was the tournament you were gonna win, after the highly impressive Le Tournoi. For a country of nearly 10 times as many people getting one round further is a great achievement.

Ha ha, quality. You'd never believe an Englishman blaming the ref for their failures on a footie pitch. Where have I heard that before? Apart from in 86, 94 (linesman, linesman!!), 98, 2002, 2004. Rich England just weren't good enough.
So would you trade those for having a decent official in 66 and 96. Hirst's "goal" and the dodgy linesman who disallowed Spain's perfectly good goal (golden goal?) in the quarter finals?

I didn't say that PM, but that's all you ever hear after, what seems like every major tournament. It's fecking boring!! It's not so much the fans fault, it's the media really.

The basic England - Scotland thing can be summed up as follows:
Scotland - used to qualify well, then embarrass themselves by losing to the likes of costa rica etc. They've had some useful results along the way too- notably the result agaist the dutch. Scotland is a small nation though, thier fans accept that and dont really expect too much.
They really are shit now though
England - often flatter to decieve. have been amongst the group of the favoites (top 6) on several occasions but fuck it it somehow, be it by bad luck, bad refereeing or bad penalties normally.
As a major footballing nation we really should be doing better. Frankly the media dosnt help - shite one minute - certain champions the next
On paper we have one of the strongest squads that will be in Germany next year, but I cant help but think that we'll fuck it up in some way or another.

On the whole I'd agree with PM's points. Apart from blaming bad luck. I mean if you look at Scotland you could say luck has had a huge effect on Scotland's WC performances, however when it comes down to it, we just weren't good enough. And that's the same as England, but at a different stage of the competition.
With regards to Costa Rica, this really wasn't that much of a shock. The victory over Scotland was the start of a good campaign by the Costa Ricans. They also beat a fancied Sweden 2-1 to qualify for the next round.

Here is a simple way of proving that England are better than Scotland.
How many England players can jan name? And how many Scotland players can rich or OST name?
End of argument?
