Considering the distance, it's not actually a bad drive.
Swindon > A419 > A417 > M5 > M6
I reckon I could do it in 4 and a bit hours.

Carlisle defo achievable in 4 hours, I got to my grandparents in 5 hours and that's an hour up the road. Although you can never tell how long it'll take as the m5/m6 just needs one crash and you're fooked!
I was going at a steady 85mph to get there in that so no need to push it!

70 Miles from Lancaster and I've done Lancaster to Swindon in 3 hours.
It's doable in 4 hours, but realistically your looking at about 5 hours (with a piss stop)
I would say take the train but the last train south is at 9:45pm FFS!
Boo I was looking forward to this one, why's it some crappy Tuesday :x

Easyjet Bristol to Newcatle. Flights for around £40 return! Not selling flights for december 4th until late october though. I may well do this. Return may be a problem. Would need a fairly late flight.

You do realise Newcastle is over an hour away from Carlisle, don't you?

I was going to say Newcastle to Carlisle's a fair trip. by the time it takes to get to Brizzle airport, park, check in, be delayed, land, get car drive from newcastle to carlisle - it won't really be worth it.
Be your own boss and drive, when I had to work in Edinburgh from swindon for a few days I'd always drive.

Drove to blackpool with oen 5 minute toilet stop on friday and took just under 3 hours, its only another 70 miles to carlise so is doable in one day I reckon
