Squad size

I heard Sturrock on the radio today reference the squad size.

He is looking for a squad of 18-20- anyone else think this is a bit small and would lack strength in depth, especially in the case of injuries/suspensions.

Also why are we loooking to keep Pook, Sturrck, Gnapka and Noubissie cant see them cutting it in league 1. Can only assume he has not got his prime beef if these names are being cited, which was always on the cards if this board remained

Pook will be a good squad player, Sturrock offers something completely different up front and as for Gnapka and Noubissie, we haven't seen enough of them to judge yet - so how can you say they won't cut it?

20 isn't so bad. It's not a million miles away from where we finished last season if you take out the likes of Shakes, Weston, et al. I assume we will pad it out with 1 or two loans as and when required.

More worrying is our lack of firepower and Sturrock not being too excited by the "free transfers" list. I know things have changed since the Bosman ruling, but this is surely one area where we may need to pay for a player?

The squad is starting to look good now, but we need a goalscorer big time. I have faith in Sturrock though. He is no novice.

 Sturrock (Who's had nemerous promotions and has stated previously that he prefers to work with a smallish squad).

Or Bart, who constantly moans and has never made a positive post.

I think a squad of 18-20 players is absolutely ideal Bart. I also think Sturrock, Gnapke, Pook and Noubissie will do fantastically well in League 1.

Thus far I'm jsut trusting PS - he's done it before - and whilst I'd love a 25 goal striker ideally I think we'll struggle to get one, IIRC his plymouth teams didn't seem to have a big scorer with plenty of midfield goals, that said if sturrock wants two holding midfielders we'll need goals from soemwhere

Although I'm sure Luggy knows what he's doing, we most definitely need more attacking options, a couple of strikers and a winger for each side as at the moment, Roberts and Zaboob are all we have out wide. Jo Kuffour has been linked with Bournemouth and Leyton Orient, surely we could compete with those two teams.

I think a squad of 20 is about right with loan players also coming in.

i'd say 22 is an absolute minimum but sturrock seems to like players who are versatile, so i guess numbers aren't such an issue.
