Vi er best i verden! Vi er best i verden! Vi har slått England 2-1 i fotball!! Det er aldeles utrolig! Vi har slått England! England, kjempers fødeland. Nevermind sacking him he shouldn't have been given the job in the first place.
The time to get rid was straight after the Croatia game, if we qualify then we can expect another Sven like management performance from McClaren in the Euro Championships i.e picking the wrong squad, negative tactics and wrong substitutions.

I respect anyone who has the bollocks to stand up and admit he has made a mistake (FFS I have made enough of them in my time) but to blatently try and take the credit for his resurgance in form, by putting it down to his decision to drop him in the first place is bordering on the deluded

i dont think mcClaren is the right man for the job but i think you are miles off the mark here. i'd bet that what mac said in that interview was taken completely out of context. you must be able to see that by dropping an underperforming beckham after the WC would ensure the return of his determination in an england shirt on his recall? mcClaren's not trying to gain any credit from any of this, for all his faults, lack of inegrity is not one of them. he is merely stating that beckham's return of form for england is down to him being dropped, which is undoubtedly true.

As for the question about Venables, i think he just sits there telling McClaren that Beckham shouldn't be in the team, and is finally being proved wrong

What about Beckham being unfit for 3 tournaments when he knew he was a shoe in for the team, but he looks in great shape this summer. Because he knows he has to be in top form get in the team, so he's been training a lot harder.
Which is how it should have been all along.
Fact is Sven breazed through qualifying, but when it mattered we never produced. Robson had trouble all through the 88-89 qualifiers, but we got there and then saved our best for the tournament.

Besides which, McLaren dropped him before Capello did. Fabio Capello (one of the most successful coaches in world football) dropped him because he was unfit and was not concentrating on football. Along with Roberto Carlos and Ronaldo. All players who were trading on superstar status and not their performances on the pitch.
When it comes to Beckham a lot of people make the mistake of mixing up talent and merit with celebrity.
Beckham deserved to be dropped and he deserved to come back. McLaren got both decisions right.
Its the players not pulling it out for England. Wind the clock back 15 years and watch the likes of Platt, Gascoigne, Pearce scoring for England. That was one of Englands worst ever team, but it meant 10 times more to play for England than 90% of the current lot. The Bentley affair summed it up for me. Pearce (very average manager as he is) cannot even conceive that a player would turn down a chance to play for England, its not something he can come to terms with. He just doesnt get it. And yet Bentley was following the advice of the players in the senior team!
The England players may be rich. They may be good players. But as people they are shit. McLaren gets the blame for that, but its not his fault.
