Goalkeepers: Paul Robinson (Tottenham), Ben Foster (Manchester United)

Defenders: Phil Neville (Everton), Joleon Lescott (Everton), Michael Dawson (Tottenham), Ledley King (Tottenham), Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), Nicky Shorey (Reading)

Midfielders: Owen Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Phil Jagielka (Sheffield United), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham), Kieron Dyer (Newcastle), Scott Parker (Newcastle), Jermaine Jenas (Tottenham), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), David Bentley (Blackburn)

Forwards: Michael Owen (Newcastle), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Alan Smith (Manchester United), David Nugent (Preston)

Any opinions? There seems to be a pretty significant gap in quality with some of those players.

Theres 7 england regulars in that squad. I thought the objective of this game would be to give the untried a run out

aka the playing-for-a-place-in-the-full-squad England team...

I assume this is everyone who's not playing for Liverpool (Champs League), Man United and Chelsea (FA Cup Final).

Gives us a chance to see how badly we'd miss Lampard (hopefully not at all) and how good Lennon is on the right wing (not Gerrard)

Where?

I'd have said the only first team starters are Robinson, Hargreaves and Owen (who hasn't played for 12 months!), maybe Lennon as well.

It's missing the entire starting back 4, Lampard, Gerrard and Rooney (that's 7 out).

I counted

Robinson
King
Hargreaves
Lennon
Downing
Owen
Defoe

Could possibly include Neville in that list aswell, as they are always regulars in the england squad. We all know what they can do aswell. Why not give someone like agbonlahor or lita a go, concidering its only a "b" team game anyway

WTF? They've started up the England B Team again? Why? England Friendlies are shit enough as it is. Surely you could use this squad in one of them.

Not that I can even be arsed to watch full England Internationals any more. Something radical needs to happen. Like appointing Andy King as Manager.

Don't put Lita in the England squad! If Jerel Ifil can mark him out of a game he's hardly up to international standards is he!

Not that Jerel is bad but y'know...

speaking of lita, about 2 months ago there were reports in the press of him moaning to the fa about players diving to earn freekicks and penalties - i seem to remember a good deal of his bristol city career was spent falling over in the penalty area.
