The letter I got when I opened my Halifax account seemed to imply that you had to put in £100 as soon as possible. I opened it with a big fat massive cheque so can't remember exactly.

I opened an account at Lloyds with no money, and have paid nothing in ever since (about 18 months) but it is still open.

Savings accounts demand a minimum input, but a normal current account is OK so long as it's solvent.

damn right, why earn money when I can get it for free? I have to put £100 in before my account becomes "live" or whatever, looks like I'm fucked then

I have been told that apparently if you open up a flex (I think) account with n/wide and transfer at least 1 SO or DD you will get £100 back after about a month or 2 and then you can cancel the account after that - apparently a special offier !!
