I'm looking to get the Mrs a digital Camera for her birthday in about about a months time.

Does anybody in the know have any recommendations for me? I know fuck all about cameras.

Only criteria are:

- Under £200
- Small
- Looks cool

Any help greatly appreciated

Although personally my camera is a big 10x optical zoom thing, it is an Olympus and my expereinces of it have been spot on, really good quality shots, and fantasic battery life on AA batteries.  I find it much easier to navigate then the Sony cameras I've played with.  For purchasing I used a link to a company from Amazon and at the time saved in excess od £100 on rrp.  What Camera? magazine was very useful - review every camera on the market.  For £200, a little zoom and easily 10mp should be accessible - just take your pick from the best reviewed models IMHO.

had a good mess about with a sony cybershot over the weekend, the bird got some crackin pics out of it. Though the small supplied memory was disappointing, presumably for that money u can get alot more some 5months on anyway

Memory wise I know Sony are the most expensive for the memory stick (they were a year ago) - but since the PSP became popular I think they've fallen.  My XD card - not that expensive, holds over 900 pics on a 1gb card at 6mp.

Fujifilm FinePix F31fd is supposed to be good and comes in at around £160. Not sure of the dimensions but fairly small I think.

I have a great wee Minolta. Probably shit by todays standards but I have had it for quite a few years and serves its purpose.

I've had three Sony Cybershots and all have been sound, the one I have currently is superb. I don't think you can really go wrong with any name brand compact digital, shop around for the best deal and any extras.

If you're after an ultra slim one - i.e. something which will comfortably fit in your pocket - then you'll probably have to sacrifice picture quality slightly.

My first purchase this summer, if i find a job, will be a proper digital SLR.
