Bit of a maths jobby this one, I've just noticed a pattern in something that's happened to me many times.

Scenario:
You open a bottle of wine and you've only got 5 cigarettes left.

You wait until you've drank what you expect is a fifth of the wine and then you light up and enjoy the wondrous feeling of your lungs being filled with smoke.

You have you're 2nd cigarette having drank 2/5ths of the bottle. When you realise that  if you follow on this pattern that you'll have your last cigarette after you've drank all your wine. When you'd really prefer to finish with the last fifth of the bottle having smoked the last cig.

Possible Solutions:

A)You split the remaining 3/5ths of the bottle into quarters, leaving you're remaining smoking points at 9/20ths, 6/20ths (or 3/10ths = 30%) and 3/20ths of the bottle.

B) You smoke the second straight away and stick to the original fifths plan.

C) You just smoke the cigarettes when you feel like it.

Crazy days.

Incredible !

It happens the same to me, except that I don't smoke.

(It's similar with roast potatoes and slices of beef though)

Smoke the first cigarette whilst drinking the first fifth and proceed in stately fashion down the rest of the bottle.  It would be a challenge to only smoke and drink at the same time, so you have to drink a fifth of a bottle in the time it takes you to smoke one fag etc but this doesn't sound that relaxing

Bloody hell Sussex that's spot on!  3 litres in a box wine divided by 20 = 15cl per fag which is exactly one fifth of a standard 75cl bottle.  Beers

Yes !

Incredible that if you multiply both figures by 4, you get the same relationship (and the same problem, just made worse by being 4 times as bladdered)
