you could try the imperial war museum - it will have guns in it, plus there is an exhibition about camoflage on there including its use in fasion which should keep the missus interested too.  Doubt its free though

Also, london aquarium is well worth going to, but again, that isn't free..

I took my lad to the Natural History Museum at half-term before Xmas and we had a great time. Although, given that I'm assuming your gf isn't a four-year old who's mad keen on dinosaurs, not sure how well that would work for you. But if she is anything like Joe, don't let her in the shop - I got cleaned out in there!

Don't worry Paul it was my 24th and my Gfs 24 too - great time - great shop too, then again I really like dinosaurs and it was a revisit to my yoof.
