Anyone got any tips for free/nearly free things to do? Going to see my gf but we're both skint.

Have heard of a free Banksy exhibition but anything else would be much appreciated!

Ta.

All public museums and galleries are free - at least for general entry, then pay for exhibitions.  Depeends what floats your boat - spent my birthdya weekend in the natural history museum - ace if it's your cup of tea, and I've enjoyed the Tate Modern before.  Bets money saving tip is get an Oyster Card - and the best cheap curry session to be had is at Hot Stuff near Vauxhall - phenomenal stuff.

You wont be surprised to hear I'm a bit of a museum junkie.....but thinking of events in London, turns my mind back 30 years....to a display I went to called Light Fantastic....at the Royal Academy of Art.

It was all to do with holography and lasers....think it may have caught the mood of the time as the queues were immense...on offer was a display of 3 d holgraphic images, and laser technologies.

I went thinking it was only going to be a matter of time before we had 3 d TV....transporter beams and holodecks.

Hasn't quite worked out that way....and generally I've been disappointed that my youthful vision of the future hasn't quite lived up to the hype.

The Cabinet War Roms are worth a look, but even tax dodgers have to pay....still a small price  compared with the freedom from the fascist yolk.

Covent Garden is always good for some freebie entertainment - usually have street entertainers , jugglers, magicians etc as well as musicians/singers in the basement near the market .

Leave Covent Garden ,head down to the Strand ,hang a right a few hundred yards down the road you're at the National Portrait Gallery - job done.

Did that the other weekend. Some Tribe were parading in the streets and we almost thought it was a race riot. Of course Bangladesh just won the cricket so they were going mental.

We got a round of drinks free and 30% off the bill and a free shot for the birthday boy. The girls shared a bottle of wine free as well. Worked out at £16 a head roughly and we ate loads
