I'm (The Groom) paying for the suit hire at my wedding in September. But we are paying for everything. Not sure what proper "Protocol" is...

I didn't have to pay for my suit at the wedding I was best man at, and I even managed to charge the groom £150 appearance fee as my speech was that good.  Protocol, that's the word I was looking for earlier!! It's a toughy, but if you pay for one you pay for all, I think, all or nothing. |

IMHO really depends on who's paying for the rest - but realistically the parents or the couple I would say, when I was an usher - admittedly as a poor 19yr old student the suit was paid for by my parents as it was my sisters weddding - they were bought suits though? no idea who paid for the grooms side of the family though?

Tradition/Custom says that the Groom pays for the Grooms suit and the Best Mans suit.
The brides father pays for the Ushers and the Bridesmaid dresses.
