SNARLING Blair Sturrock says Town must unleash the dogs of war' against Accrington Stanley and avoid paying an Arsenal-style price for profligacy in front of goal.

While most players have only had to face an angry manager at the training ground this week, Sturrock junior has had to live with a seething gaffer.

However, the striker says it hasn't been a case of having to avoid flying plates or tea cups in the kitchen at Sturrock towers.

The Stockport County debacle has been put to bed and the Town forward says the players must rediscover the basic qualities essential for a League Two escape route.

Sturrock said of life at home: "There hasn't been a problem.

"Now the boys have to take on board what he says and change their ways.

"Everyone has to take a look in the mirror and whoever's picked, they have to go out and give everything.

"Supporters want the passion and the fight and it's about coming in after the game and having nothing in the tank.

"This whole division is scrap and battle.

"If you can play as well that's when you usually find a team up the top.

"We need to learn again, to scrap, battle and fight like dogs - dogs of war."

Should he be selected, Sturrock is hungry to take the fight to the Accrington defence.

He knows Town need more goals and that spurning chances at one end creates pressure at the other.

He said: "We need goals. We only won 1-0 against Chester, with other chances, and didn't score at Stockport."

Failing to take your chances can leave you in a precarious position. Just ask Arsene Wenger.

Sturrock said: "Look at the Arsenal game the other night.

"They (PSV) hadn't had anything all night, one goal and you're out of Europe."

Not that Blair's dad is expecting a Champions League quality performance tomorrow, but he is demanding certain things from his side.

Sturrock senior said: "All I'm exacting my team to do is show an honesty on Saturday, work rate and attitude.

"If we do that I think with the quality players we have, I'm confident of getting a result."

With Ashley Westwood struggling with a calf problem, Sturrock is continuing to chase loan targets with hopes that two could come to fruition early next week.

Good to see that at least one player knows what to expect from league 2- a dog-fight. None of the negative shit we heard earlier in the week.

I would splay sturrock with Peacock up front this weekend....at least you'd be guaranteed total commitment if not goals.

Bit annoying really after his comments that he didnt want to sign someone for one, two or three months who didnt then turn out to be as good as they had hoped......
I don't bloody mind if they don't turn out to be championship quality...as long as they are FIT TO PLAY THE BLOODY GAME!!!.....we're going to end up having to play a new formation with 3 at the back unless he gets someone in soon thats fit!!!

Don't let fatbart hear you say that!

I think Sturrock was getting desperate and brought in Westwoooood as quick as possible. Played him straight away after being out for so long. He'll probably be ok for tmrw, have a late fitness test.

Then play him in his best position.

Out wide.

If Sturrock plays his preferred 4-4-2 he could have Roberts on the wing with 2 up front.

If Westwood is fit to play, I think it'll be Sturrock and Peacock, if not, he may move Peacock back and bring in Lukas.

Either way, I don't think he'll play Roberts as a striker.

But I'm probably wrong...............................
