what figgis said....

Sheffield Wednesday fans seems to think Sturrock worked their players amazing hard and we should all watch a training session to see how hard they work. Regardless, doesnt seem as hard as Wise was working them.

i can say 3 weeks ago an oportunity to kick on and go and win this league opened up and at the moment we are blowing it. maybe its not fair to put that preasure on the players but  if we fail to go up this season will be a disaster . the failure to back sturrock and failure to gain promotion will be a bitter blow to the board and i would put the blame at their feet. they've cost us a manager this season and looks like promotion is a doubt now.

fucking hell lads dennis wise wasn't that good.

he really wasn't.

Sturrock has had to let players go (probably a result of pressure from the board in order to reduce spending) and the core of the side has been injured for ages.

i dont care how many times i hear someone (DV85) smugly say "shouldve kept monkhouse" i disagree and backed sturrock when he sold him. he was injury prone, slow and not as good as zabooub. better than brown but, i and probably sturrock though he could have the funds for someone new.

i'm as unhappy as the next man but this reaction is utterly laughable, we're league 2 for crying out loud when have we been this amazing side that people have etched into their memory?
wise's honeymoon period consisted of a lucky lucky win up in pool, that last minute screamer vs barnet, when we were shit and a scrappy 1-0 win at home to rochdale.
granted, we had some quality results, Franchise at home, chester and darlo away but definetely no better than playing the league leaders off the park or going to MK and getting a win.

i sincerely think all this shight about the players being superfit beings under wise is a myth, we played really well only a couple of times.

stockport havent conceded for 9 games and we went with our captain and first choice goalkeeper out injured not to mention evans who was banging them in under wise.

we were beaten at home by peterborough, drew with boston and accrington stanley with wise, he wasn't a miracle worker and we havent gone backwards.

Losing 3-0 away at Stockport is going backwards however you look at it.

Brezovan's been out so long you can hardly consider him our number one, Smith has done a fantastic job at any rate. Evans has barely played under Sturrock - you can't miss what you haven't got - but the loss of Ady is a massive blow.

I don't think we were neccesarily hugely better under Wise but we certainly looked more organised and disciplined. Roberts, Shakes, Pook et al were all playing far better than they are now.

We've not been amazing at any point this season - Walsall aside maybe - but we're still better than the shite we've shown lately.

Isn't this all very simple.  This is all about Ady, and no future for some at the club.  Westwood was probably the signing that didn't happen the week before because of injury in training.  Rather than sticking to the back four of the previous week, Westwood was seen as Ady's replacement and presumably the thought process was that he should play as soon as possible.  That was the first mistake, the same back four as last week with Vincent keeping Ifil out of trouble should have played.  Sturrock has acknowledged this.  A no-brainer with 20/20 hindsight.

Noubissie was seen as Evans' replacement, Timlin is not playing his natural role as holding.  Assuming Noubisie could cover the back four, logically there is no place for Weston if Timlin plays.  Apparently, that didn't work either.

Given Sturrock's rant he expects the players to sweat blood even though most of the first team won't be earning a new contract.  This is a bit like last season, we got to sixteenth and then Iffy started talking about contracts, and that was that.

Looking at players who will move on, who would bet against Nicho, Roberts, Shakes and Brown.  Possibly, from Sturrock's perspective, these are players who stunk up Div 1 in a relegation team.  What Sturrock is sruggling with is that they aren't putting the effort in.  An alternative argument could be is that after last season, they simply don't know how to win.  What team confidence there was evaporated apparently when Ady wasn't around.  He should have been at Stockport, even though his career is most likely over.

A former Evertom manager said that getting the team to run around the field was half the battle.  I think that lack of confidence and lack of any future at the club, irrespective of the chance of being in a promoted team, is showing.  Quite frankly Luggy is right maybe for the wrong reasons, find out who's prepared to put the effort in, whether or not it is down to lack of confidence or lack of any other motivation, and then make up the eleven with youth teamers.  The youth teamers will at least put the effort in. Finally, if there is no room for Weston in central midfield, put him on the left or right, at leat he has skill, and he knows he has a future.

in past promotion teams i nearly always had the feeling we had a good chance of winning most games.this season i,ve spent most of the last 10 mins on the edge of my seat barely able to look hopeing we don,t f  k it up.hartlepool away two missed pens, barnet at home last min winner, wrexham away great first half bollox secound, Franchise home needing 2 pens to win ,wycombe away injury time balls up, boston home vincent backing off and their player scoring in the last minute  all under wise.
torquay away ,stole the points morcombe fac stole the tie, mansfield away didn,t turn up,Franchise away cringing every time one of their players got into the box-great win though barnet away we didn,t turn up ,darlington at home where we should have been out of sight 1 point, and yesterday all over after16 mins.
with our first choice team we are probably in the top 3 teams in this mediocre division ,with a confident team with a few injurys we should just be good enough to overcome most of the teams but whoever is the manager a side low on confidence with players out of position not being able to score when we are on top ,fans getting frustrated having a go we are heading for top spot in the stress table.
we need a little bit of luck or a good sammy parkin , the fixture, swe have left looked good 4 weeks ago but with the team low on cofidence i think we,ve got 2 more months of edge of the seat last ten minutes. Crying

Let's be honest half the problem is having a lack of a goal scorer that you are confident that is he get's a chance he will at least get a shot on goal and 7 out of 10 times score a goal.

We do not have that, most of the other teams around us have that ability.

I would be surprised if most of Sat's team do not play the reserves as no one can really be singled out as playing well, the only one I would suggest do not play in the reserves is Ifil (as he's gonna be suspended anyway), the others should be made to play no excuses and there should be the same subs bench as well apart from Nicho who I'm sure will start.

We need to see these players care about getting promotion, maybe it is as Sturrock has said before a lot of these players do not live locally so they do not know what it means to supporters and the community to risk losing out of promotion.

It is about time I think that Sturrock stopped looking for a striker that can play at a higher level and perhaps took a risk on a young striker that is banging them in for a premier reserve side and is hungry for first team football. (assuming he will drop to this level)

I happen to know somebody who has close ties with Filton college in Bristol, who have apparently worked quite closely with Town this season.

Supposedly, (and this is just what I was told) Sturrock was shocked at how un-fit the players were when he inherited the squad.

So the theory of Wise making them all little Mr. Motivators may well have been misplaced.

Or it may just be speculation built on a few too many "apparently"s and "supposedly"s. Sorry, but when Wise was in charge, the same players we finished last season with certainly looked fitter than they had at any point during last season. That said, I don't see that they look less fit now - it's not fitness that's the problem, it's not having a goalscorer and a lack of options to change things/drop people because we have a paper-thin squad. We didn't play samba football under Wise by any means, and rode our luck far too often - if he was still here, with the same players and also having not been able to bring anyone in in January, he'd be having the same problems.

Just shows you how things change in this League though, Stockport were aboslute dogshite when they came to the CG earlier in the season

We go beat by a record-breaking side - its not a backward step or the end of the world ffs

Fair play to them - wish we had signed Elding though...

Ill stick my neck on the line here

I believe Wise is a better manager than Sturrock

To prove it - I reckon Leeds will stay up and we will stay down

I hope im wrong! Emo
