Congrats to ex-Swindon trainee Mark Draycott who scored all six goals for Supermarine in their 6-3 away win today.

Good luck to the lad. Scoring 6 at any level is an achievement.

But, tbh, looking at players we used to have, who are now successful at a much lower level doesn't mean we should have held on to them.

Not that I'm suggesting anyone is...............

No, scoring a hatful in the Southern League does not mean you will be anywhere near League standard. In my opinion though, the club has failed consistently over the years (regardless of the manager) to give the kids a proper crack of the whip. David Stroud is the latest in a very long line of such players. He playes outstandingly well in one game and that's it. He is never seen again. It does not make sense, particularly at a club with such limited resources.

Didn't he decide to turn down an offer from the club and went off to the States on a scholarship?

I don't think Draycott ever got near the first team, which is odd considering he was scoring freely for the youths and reserves. Certainly don't recall any offer of a pro contract at STFC.

Things didn't work out in the US and I think he's played for a fair few non-league clubs around the area before coming to Supermarine.

I always liked him 'cos he was Irish
