it could be useful as it may make the players buck up there game but it could also have a negative effect.
no wrong or right answer really.
people pay their money so have a right to boo, but thats different to swearing at and abusing players.

I do not think you should boo your own players, it is not constructive - although in Mr Browns case calling your fans a w@nker is not constructive.

I for one would not boo any player.

I'd be careful about jumping out and shouting Boo at players. You only need one with a heart condition and you've got another Marc-Vivien Foé incident on your hands.

Quote from: "sonic youth"
I can never understand why fans berating players is BAD but the manager berating players is GOOD.

We can't show our dissatisfaction but the manager can shout and scream at them? If the manager's comments don't have a negative effect I don't see how fans' would either.

If you single out one of your own players for booing, you're pretty much saying you think they're a cunt and/or shit.  Hopefully a manager's team-talk would have a bit more substance to it than that, and that's why it could possibly motivate.  Booing opposition player is on the other hand much more likely to get a reaction I think, because you're never going to be on their side.  I can't think of an example of a Swindon player upping his game because our lot have booed him.

In extreme cases, like you said, it is deserved and maybe needed, but only if you really want them out of the club.

As others have said though, football fans are always too easy to boo.  It always makes me laugh when ours go off to rapturous applause because of a late winner, when you just knew the boos were coming.

i recon you can safely say reeves and duke (to an extent) did just this.
there'll obviously be a counter argument for it but the booing, indirectly or not, did improve them.

as for brown, he's in the patrick collins mould. he's an arrogant bling merchant wanker and the quicker he's out the door the better.

whether or not booing him during the match, or even after, is helpful i very much doubt it but as a fan and paying customer i feel i have the right to tell him i hate him whenever i like. ..... where's the logic in that? there isn't an awful lot to be honest.

it's not even as if he's not good enough, like duke or reevesy at that point, i just hate the way he strolls around not really trying, never actually doing anything, but clearly thinking he's amazing that pisses me off.

I can understand people boo-ing, and having paid their money they have every right to do what they like. Personally, i dont boo, even if we have been shite. I just tend to hang my head in dissapointment and sulk off. I dont fully understand how hurling abuse at players helps them either. Shouting out "pook your shit" or "fuck of shakes" is hardly going to boost their morale.

I feel that as players who get well paid to play the beautiful game, (I know, when did we last see beautiful football?) they have to take the rough with the smooth i.e. we're fickle with Roberts, when he heads off on a mazey run to win a corner we love him, and when he gets tackled and takes half hour to get up, we give him shit.

I think as fans we have a right to express our opinions, and we all do it in different ways. If someone e.g. Shakes (only an example), continues to put the ball in the stand when he gets to the bye-line then why shouldn't I shout my displeasure? If its that obvious to me, then that tells me that Sturrock should have done the necessary and taken him off by then. I am as quick to praise as I am to berate, but maybe thats down to my jekll/hyde personality?! :?

One thing is noticeable though particularly at home games, is we never give 'the Beast' any bother when he puts it into row Z because we all know what he is good at namely tackling and winning headers. We don't give him shit because we know his capabilites and his job isn't to dink a ball over the top/into the channels for our midfield/strikers to run onto.

Our strikers/creative players jobs are to either create goals or put the ball in the onion bag and when they ain't doing it, it is more noticeable and hence why it is easier to give them stick.

What was the original question?! :boring:

"The support we have brought here is remarkable and we have let every single one of them down. Of course they have a right to boo, I think I would."

Said by Christian Roberts in an article on thisis.

I think thats a fair comment, especially if the players are aware they were completely shite.

Booing at the end of the game is fine, possibly at half time but not during the game i.e every time they get the ball like you would for the return of a former player.

what really pisses me off is those dosy bastards (one twat towards the front of the town end in particular) who boo and abuse players before the games even kicked off...............i think he's a bit special tho!
