Does anyone remember this?? I don't... John Barnes, the finest black player of his generation, was held up as the great hope for black managers.
He was handed a massive opportunity when he was named manager of Scottish giants Celtic in June 1999, but lasted only eight months after a disastrous run of results including a Cup defeat by Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Barnes was eager to move back into management, and even coached for free at Swindon for a while but was not given a second chance and now works as a television presenter. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/6376121.stmIs that even true? Surely there would have been lots of publicity about it?

That's news to me!
If true (which I'm doubting), I can only think that would have been when Roy Evans was here.

I saw that and certainly have no recall of it happening.....if he did some work with Mcmahon surely the Adver or Shaun would have got hold of it.

imagine the post match interviews with Barnesy As Martin Kelner on Fighting talk last week. His presenting is like watching an Al-Jazera Hostage on TV.

If true (which I'm doubting), I can only think that would have been when Roy Evans was here. That's what I thought, but then surely he would've attracted more publicity than Ruddock? Lazy journalism!?

Didn't he do it with McMahon for a bit? He was still playing elsewhere when McMahon was at Swindon.

Didn't he do it with McMahon for a bit? He was still playing elsewhere when McMahon was at Swindon. All of which doesn't necessarily mean he didn't try out a few sessions for an old team mate while trying to get badges.

But he was playing for Newcastle when McMahon was coming to the end of his Swindon tenure. I just figured it would be alot of commitment to commute from Liverpool/Newcastle for a couple of training sessions!

Fair enough....but I think we can agree that as far as anyone knows Barnes never did any coaching here.
