Just hanging around in Brighton ahead of The Stranglers this evening.
Last full tour apparently. It's been a long goodbye due to the pandemic.

Superb.
JJB is a legend although the aura of menace is a much more cheerful one these days.

Haven't seen them since Hugh Cornwall days - would love to though for old times sake. Great band.

Saw them last night at Reading (bought the tickets 2 years ago pre COVID) and missed the game.

A good night out though the sound isn't the same without Dave Greenfield.

A nice tribute to him towards the end with JJ and Baz alone on the stage and the now empty keyboard station spot lit.

Not sure where to put this but maybe one for Sax to answer...

Why do a lot of music "tours" (or any tour for that fact) never seem to follow any kind of geographical sense?

For eg, you'll say have Ozric Tentacles playing at Brighton on the Tues, Newcastle on the Weds, Birmingham on the Thurs and then Glasgow on the Fri...

Why? I totally get scheduling can sometimes make it a nightmare and things like venues, accoms etc may not have availability but I am curious as to why (considering they are bloody heavily planned in advance) there never seems to be any real logistical sense to yo-yo-ing up ans down the country.

You've answered your own question.
I use to tour manage, one classic was Brighton, Buckley, Portsmouth, Liverpool. Got to love agents.

Yep.  Mex is right.  It's a lot to do with availability and competition for venues, but also seems to be a lot to do with agents and promoters not owning bloody maps.  Bane of tour managers and promoters reps lives.

My next stint of shows are a good example - Newcastle, Cardiff, Bristol, Sheffield, London.  Mostly 8.30 am load ins (which I have to be there for) and show down at 11pm (again I have to be there until past this)

Not a lot of time for sleeping.  I often spend 4 hours in a hotel that we're paying £100 for.

Thanks both Sax and Mex.

I figured it would be something slightly silly (like lack of some geography) Smiley

Sax - If only they had put Sheff after the Newcastle gig that wouldn't be so bad. Ermm, enjoy Wink Good to be back though really, I'm sure Smiley

Mex - Ouch. Portsmouth before Buckley would've been a little kinder!

Booked tickets for White Lies in Oxford in a couple of weeks. First gig since Stereophonics in 2020 so is going to be really weird to be back in a live venue.
