Ok i'm thinking of getting me one. Budget is £1k which i know isn't much but i feel it's enough to get me a decent 42" TV. I've been looking at this particluar one on Ebuyer http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/108077and for £900 is perfect. just wondered if others have any better suggestions or it they have a samsung etc to comment on what they're like

I have a Phillips one - I trust Phillips as at my old work they were one of my customers and they are pretty reliable and have some pretty decent technology (from what I understand being a girl and all!!)
We got a free DVD recorder with it too!!

I just got the panasonic TH42PX60 with cab stand from john lewis for £899, delivered this morning. They price matched ASK but JL also give a free 5 year guarentee. They should have charged delivery but forgot! http://www.askdirect.co.uk/uview?call=ask.productSearch&id=9347If you want to do this then ring Ask, check they have stock then ring JL local to you (ring the store NOT the website as only the store can pricematch) and see if they will price match However be aware there are issues with some of these, google "panasonic purple snakes av forums" and look at the "colour problems with my...." (should be first result returned). I took the risk because a) not all sets are affected b) Panny **seem** to have a fix c) if you look around all makes of HD sets seem to have a problem or another. I intend to sell the stand and use the money to wall mount it (nice stand , but not practicle with the nipper about). JL product link: http://www.johnlewis.com/Audio+and+TV/Special+Offers/Special+Offers/TV+Special+Offers/1149/230413829/Product.aspx

Incidently even if you don't go for the Panny JLs 'never knowingly undersold' means they pricematch ANYWHWHERE in the UK that has a shop displaying the same product in stock at a cheaper price. This therefore does not include internet only sites like ebuyer (and even Dixons, as Currys.digital is the high street store now). This is useful to know as JL always include a free 5 year guarentee on TVs even if they price match somewhere that doesn't, which is damn good in my book. Also useful to know is that some internet shopping sites such as Empire Direct have physical stores too. They have the samsung TSamsung PS42Q7HD for £799 there excl delivery (check that is with stand). Don't know if this is as good as the PS42E7HD one from ebuyer though?

from what i've been told you should opt for a lcd over a plasma,as the picture quality is better.
