I'm a bit of a virgin when it comes to snow but this weekend I am being dragged along to some indoor skiing centre in France in a town called Amnieville. Apparently it has real snow and I am going to attempt snowboarding for the first time ever. 30 Euro for 2 hours of falling over seems a tad expensive for me though!!
Anyone else been on the slopes?

not being snowboaring but was a bit of a frequent skier a few years back, its great fun, blades are cool aswell, they are small banana shapped skis maybe a foot and a half long, and you dont use poles, they got fast.
skiing is suprisingly easy to get hold of, and is great fun, but not when you nearly fall off a mountain ledge tho.

I have only been skiing! Gonna book my winter holiday this sunday! In my opinion skiing is easier, i was on my ass all the time when i snowboarded! iTS ACE FUN THOUGH!!

I used to Snowboard. It's the only sport worth taking seriously on the slopes. If you're a virgin 2 hours won't get you too far, you'll learn you edges and how to stop. That'll be about it. I do recommend it though, you'll enjoy it and it will give you a head start should you hit the real shit. The first day will seem hard, or at least the first few hours, so a head start won't hurt. It then becomes second nature. Wait till you start laying down those carves when taking the beast through powder. Ohhhhh, dreamy!  |

The snowboarding was great fun, I would recommend it. We paid 35 Euro for 2 hours and hire of full equipment. At the start I couldn't stand up, but eventually and after a number of attempts I managed to keep my balance and stop without falling over! Felt much more confident towards the end and will maybe attempt to go up the big hill next time, although I would be feared of the 8 year old Austrian kids who can ski like legends!!

Went snowboarding with the lads to Val d'Isere a few years ago. Too much like exercise for my liking, and spent most of the time sliding down steep hills on my arse!
Horses for courses though. Kinky Tom broke his back and went back again this season. Give us an SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Indeed I did my good man - we need some snow rather desperately out here as it goes.
As for snowboarding - if you can commit to looking like an arse for a while you'll get through it and realise it was worth it.

Yeah, it is - we're one of the better resorts because of our altitude but there's been rain in many resorts and some are closed. Make sure you think hard about where to go - do research etc. don't want to pay out a shed load and be disappointed.

Hopefully there'll be snow at the end of february when I make my alpine debut. I think i'll board, because whatever I try I'll fall over and look a tit, but I think i'll look cooler being an idiot with a snowboard attached to my feet.
