I'm reading Banco by Henri Charriere, the follow up to papillion, which is a fantastic book, even translated from French it is very good.  I might read Ben Elton after that, or the Bill Bryson science book or perhaps the new ones by John King or Irvine Welsh.

Currently reading

"The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins (which is class if you like your popular science/psychology/philosophy)
the Shane McGowan biog thing "A Drink with......",
and re-reading "The talented Mr Ripley"

Next up is Will Self's "The Book of Dave", the Palin diary thing, and a Bill Bryson that someone bought me for Xmas, (who I don't normally read, but this one looks like a autobiog rather than a smug travel book so might be OK)

Read that a few years ago matt. Thought it was a good read, but Charriere was so up his own arse............

Just started reading 'Last Days Of The Reich', by James Lucas.

I read Papillion when out in Africa, it's just that the guy has some serious stories to tell, he's a great orator, but like you say Hertha he is a little self-righteous at times.

I've finished Behind the Curtain: Travels in Eastern European Football - very interesting - their corruption in football puts England and Italy to shame!

I've finally got round to buying and now reading the John Trollope biography by Peter Matthews. 50 pages in and it's not overly great - Matthews' Don Rogers book was better.

I'm reading "Everything is Illuminated" by Jonathan Safran Foer, it's a bit bizarre in places but quite entertaining....

This is about an insomniac and has lots of Jewish references.

And anal sex, IIRC.

Indeed, read that chapter last night, funniest chapter so far.

I think he's fixated with anal sex.

Read his first book (Can't remember what it was called) and there was a fair bit about bum fun in that too.

Was it any good? Must say I am not his biggest fan but I have chuckled at this book.
