Leaving aside the petty obstructionist quibbles in the club's press release tody, there is one question posed in it which I think is a legitimate question which needs answering. Which is - have the Trust just randomly hitched their horse to any passing cart claiming to be able to take over from the current regime or have we actually checked that the backers of the Fans Consortium are in a position to deliver on the fine words?
Two members of the Trust board, by which I mean myself and Andy Ratcliffe, have met with the backers and we know who they are and how they intend to move the club forward. It was on that basis that we issued yesterday's statement - clearly, it would be extremely foolish to just randomly back any bid that came along without first establishing who was behind it, as the club's press release seemed to imply. That would be to run the risk of going from the frying pan into the fire and I think most Town fans have had enough of that from when the current lot came in promising "more money than you can shake a stick at". We're not interested in making that mistake.
On the basis of having met with said backers, we are happy that the proposed Fans Consortium has both the financial means and the business expertise to: a. Cover the club's liabilities including the CVA - which the current regime, by their own admission, cannot b. Stabilise the football club as a business - which the current regime have had five years of trying to do but have not noticeably achieved c. Move the club forward - which the current regime .... (you get the idea)
I wish we were in a position to say more, but for the moment the backers wish to remain anonymous, as is their right and is not unusual in this type of deal. We intend to respect that wish but I hope that it will not be long before we are able to say more about the backers we have such confidence in.
So in summary, it would be irresponsible for any fans' organisation to offer their backing to a proposed deal concerning the future of the football club without having first satisfied themselves that the people behind that deal could take the club forward. We aren't that naive and we have done so.

Thanks for clearing that up Paul, myself and alot of Swindon fans I know are 100% behind the trust and consortium and really hope that the takeover happens. The work the Trust and Mike Wilks have achieved in the last few months deserves alot of credit so well done and dont give up, keep pushing this club needs to be run by people who care about it!!

Just what the Doctor ordered Paul.
I had become less confident of the consortiums position following the club's statement today and i was very positive yesterday. Thanks
