.....let's get a bit ahead of ourselves and assume the unbelievable is about to happen, and we're getting Sturrock.....we've crossed swords with his sides a bit in recent years, so have a bit of insight into how he operates.

Of his 3 visits to the CG, unsurprisingly he came off worst 2-1 against the tactical genius of  :king:

Plenty of goals though...6 for and  9 against.

Two visits to his sides, yielded no points however.

The best indicator would be his Argyle side of a few years back.....the famous 2-0 and you've fucked it up side.

The key elements in this were the pace of breaking full backs and midfield players into the box and  the swiftness of delivery.  Capaldi who apparently is struggling at Argyle was a key man in this......is Vincent up to it?  Thought he was better yesterday, and may need to up his game to convince Sturrock.

Norris and Friio...scored goals from midfield ....Pook and Weston  should be capable of this, something DW was working on.

Probably the most surprising key to Sturrock sides is never having a striker of note, but relying on goals from elsewhere....this should suit us, as we don't have a goalscorer.

The season Muff won this league equalling our record pointas total,  Coughlan the centre half was leading scorer.....this is an area where we are poor....yesterday for example we must have had about ten corners, yet  didn't come close to scoring.

Ifil should be doing better in this department, can Luggy get something more from him.

A seamless transition would be wonderful.....but there are no guarantees in football....but if indeed it is Sturrock, its as good as what we could hope for.

We don't want Sturrock with that clause in his contract, i'd rather not have him with the clause TBH!!!

Surely these muppets on the board have learnt a lesson by now?

Oh i forgot they never learn from their mistakes, i would really welcome Sturrock here he would be great for us but only without this clause!

The clause would not show 100% commitment and i don't think the fans and players would like that so i urge the muppets on the board to only appoint Sturrock without the clause otherwise there will be a repeat of the wise situation within a year!!!

I don't see anything wrong with that  clause....I would have thought its a long  shot it will ever get invoked.

Yeah and it's unlikely to happen for at least 2 seasons, in which Sturrock might get offered a job at Leeds or something. The only thing is we wouldn't get compo, but if we go up this season it should make up for it financially.

Maybe, maybe not, but apparently the consortium trying to take control of sheffield wednesday want sturrock as manager.

Let's say for instance they take over the club in 3-4 months time and want Sturrock he will be gone which wouldn't be any good as it would make us unstable again.

If Dave Allen however stays in control of wednesday then obviously Sturrock won't be going back there, it's very rare for someone to go back to a club where they have been sacked so it may never happen, however the clause still worries me a little!!!

But in 3-4 months time he might want to finish the job he has started here, or just wait untill the end of the season.

Paul Sturrock got Plymouth back to back promotions and put in place the grounding to keep them in the championship

He also turned Wednesday round in less than a season and kept them up the following year

Dismissing the whole Southampton saga thats 3 promotions in 5 years with no relegations.

Much more than King ever did.

The clause is a risk and may come back to haunt us. But is it any more of a risk than an unproven manager?

Sturrock is the best man for the job. We don't know the details of the cluase, if it exsists as stated (or even if the rumour of him joining us are true).

Guess we'll have to hope he has a minimum tenure before the clause can be invoked (i.e. until the end of the season).

But if this scenario happens, then Sturrock could just resign and go anyway...we know that in this day and age management is a short term thing.......

Its also entirely possible that it will turn into a disaster, after all Sturrock has been around the block, probably knows he'll never get another top job and may have lost his motivation.  We'll see.

He had a mid-table season in between those promotions.

Even if he does bugger off in the summer, we're still going to be better off having Sturrock here for that time.

excellent post reg, i was thinking about sturrock earlier - i was always impressed with plymouth when we played them.

my recollections are similar to yours, free-scoring midfielders, defenders chipping in with plenty of goals and strikers who'd reach double figures but little more.

i always recall friio being an impressive player, though i believe he's retired now.

he was also manager of wednesday when he came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 iirc.

do you not realise that the board have actually listened to the fans and gone with a decent appointment? do you also realise that if we were to get Sturrock he demanded that clause in his contract? otherwise he won't join us. it was the same with Wise. yes it seems a bit daft but if sombody said to you "ill take the job but only if it has this clause in it" and you really wanted to employ him you would put the clause in the contract wouldn't you? id much rather have Sturrock with a clause than someone like Steve White in charge

Unfortunately as a League Two side if we are going to attract names of any standing clauses such as the aforementioned are an inevitability.  As has been mentioned, the clause in this case is highly unlikely to be invoked given the saga between Sturrock and the Wendy's.

What would you rather?  Williams as a permanent installment or the board take a chance with Sturrock?  This business of a clause is also pure speculation, and possibly down to people who were pissed off by Wise's clause and are putting 2 and 2 together to make 15.
