Absolute Calamity!

« on: Saturday, November 4, 2006, 01:07:16 »

After giving us permission to hand out the Fans' Consortium leaflets yesterday, Martyn Starnes appears to have had a change of heart. This evening we received an email from him, sent at 6:40 pm, withdrawing permission for us to hand out the leaflets at the CG tomorrow.

Anyway, we'll be leafletting the perimeter of the CG as per last week, so if you want to see what the fuss is about (but don't get too excited, they're not worth the fuss caused), look out for dodgy looking geezers with "dangerous" leaflets.

Oh, and we'll be attempting to sign up new members for the Trust again tomorrow as well, again as per last week. Any help gratefully received - meet at the Trust office at 1.30 pm.

They seem to have given up on the Health and Safety angle and he's basically said he doesn't like the content of the leaflet as he feels it is detrimental to the club and the great progress that has been made over the last five years. In a nutshell.

In a world where that leaflet merits this kind of fuss, it probably is.

do the club own the car park?

in fact do the club have the right to stop you handing things out on Council property?

I wonder who dreamt that gem up then! I bet it wasn'nt Mr Starnes! I bet he's a bit embarassed tonite. Oops

Anyway, they dont own the ground, so how can they be dictatatorial about handing out leaflets?  Surely that should be down to the Council?

Just a thought.

Thanks for the link Paul.

Must be because of the potential cost of clean up or the fines that the club could get for littering I suppose.

Nope, he's quite explicit that it's down to the content of the leaflet. Apparently, in a week when the Red Army Fund has yet again committed to spending several grand to bring in a player the club couldn't otherwise afford (without, as yet, any public acknowledgement of that from the club), Mr Starnes feels we don't want to help the club.

Have you done a press release (to the adver) stating the situation? surely you must have? First thing I'd do anyway.
