SWINDON Town have hinted Paul Sturrock and Luc Nijholt are frontrunners for the County Ground hot-seat with the club and the fans thinking along the same lines. The club’s newest director, Martyn Starnes, revealed the club have been bombarded with e-mails suggesting who Wise’s successor should be and admits the majority agree with the board’s way of thinking.
Town’s former Dutch defender Nijholt and old Plymouth boss Sturrock were mentioned by most, with Starnes admitting both possessed the pedigree the club were looking for.
Nijholt has already confirmed his application for the post is in, while Sturrock is also interested, and Starnes said they would both “come into the reckoning”.
Town’s acting chief-executive, said: “I have received quite a few e-mails now from fans and we welcome their input.
“There have been a few suggestions for managers but certainly a high number of them have been for Luc Nijholt and Paul Sturrock.
“In these circumstances the fans thoughts are our thoughts as well. They are clearly guys with a lot of pedigree who will come into the reckoning.
“We have to found out whether we have a match for each other now and that will be put into place in the interview process
would you believe it

Fair play
It was a bold and wise move for him to open up his email to the fans and genuinely seems to respect opinions.
It is something that has not happened for years and long may it continue !

I'm not being critical of him, but you would have to be a bit special to not put the likes of Sturrock and Nijholt towards the top of the pile of applications

I sent a message to Mark Devlin a while ago asking him what his favourite cheese was, he replied to tell me that it was halloumi. I have requested the same information from Mr Starnes, and I will treat him with suspicion until such a time as he makes this information available. It's all very well allowing supporters to communicate their thoughts on who should be given the job of taking the club forward on the pitch, but this will mean nothing if he likes cottage cheese or a poofy mild cheddar!

he seems to be making the right noises and saying the right things.
However, I still dont trust him, purely because he is a member of our board and I dont trust our board at all

A case in point, shown by the recent dredging up of the Dunwoody connection on here by Fatbury, where the Board were so say, listening to the fans and cancelling the Dunwoody contract......Sandy Grey resigning etc....yeh right.

i just think that all of a sudden certain people have realised that continuous "own goals" are not doing the board any favours at all.
Especially after the Wise saga, and the non committal atitude at the AGM.
Whilst being a Trust board member, contrary to poular belief, I do not have a broad brush approach to everyone that sits on the board as a collective, in fact far from it.
The proof of the pudding is in the eating so to speak.
The noises that are coming from Mr Starnes are welcoming and channels of communication between fans and the board have been so long in coming that I salute it.
Whilst the consortium's aims and goals remain the same, it will make the process so much easier to have routes into the club that are rational and not blinkered.
As I have said before .................. long may it continue
