Shame this isn't on telly really would have been nice to see the fat emotional mess get a decent pasting.

HE was a formidable enough opponent on the football field with all the rules that entails, but now Neil 'Razor' Ruddock has the chance to show an even meaner streak when he enters the boxing ring on Friday night for a special charity event, writes DAVE EVANS.

And what is more the special fight night will take place under the floodlights at Upton Park as the organisers put on a 10-fight card to raise money for registered charity Five Links Turning Point in Basildon who care for bullied children.

Organiser Lee Short, a talented amateur boxer originally from Bow, will step into the ring against Ruddock and he is expecting it to be a big night.

"We will set up a ring where the manager's technical areas are in front of the pitch and the spectators will be seated behind where the players come out as well as in the hospitality boxes," he said.

"It's going to be a great night with fireworks and a proper MC and some celebrity guests and it's all for charity."

He continued: "I've had seven fights myself, but I think it will be tough against Ruddock as he has been training hard down in Battle on the south coast and he will be probably a stone heavier than me."

Ruddock and Short will meet over three two-minute rounds, while the rest of the evening will be taken up with a special match between a selected London team and a squad from the Swindon Raw Club.

"The Swindon boys are all car valeters during the day and then when they finish that they turn their premises into a boxing gym - they are certainly all talented boxers."

Tickets are going fast for the event, with just a few VIP hospitality boxes left, priced at £500 (for a group of 10 people).

Tickets are also available at silver level (£20) and gold level (£30).

The doors open at 6.30pm, so if you are interested in buying a ticket you can ring either 01424 420225 or 07810 320862.
