About 30 mins ago. It was nice to see her again after a couple of months, but it was also very sad. I was almost in tears when i left. Because she is suffering with alzheimer's Disease, she even did not recognise me when i walked in to see her.

It's sad. My Nan had that back in the 80's and didn't recognize any of us at the end. It does tear at you; and there's no easy way to deal with it unfortunately.

Its crap my Grandad had it I was only a kid so my Mum shielded me from it mostly.He didn't recognise anyone in the end except my Mums dog.

2 of my grandparents had it. It wasn't nice, and thats how I remember them.
I once visited my nan in hospital, and she had put someone else's false teeth in by mistake, and looked like Bugs Bunny.
I shouldn't really take the piss, but I found that hilarious.

been there...my gramp was in the early stages....one day he wouldnt know who I was....the next he would be telling Reg Smeeton style Swindon stories from the 60s
Sadly in February he had a stroke and passed on.

Same happened to my old nan, bless her.
It's a fucking wrench at first but deep down they're still the same person just a few years out of kilter. I found it fascinating chatting way to the old dear and seeing a completely different side to her.
Shouldn’t laugh but looking back some of the stories were cracking and the language would have made a docker blush.

My gran was tiny the last time I saw her, it's weird how old people shrink. She got to the stage where she could only fit into kids clothes, I went round once and she was wearing a power rangers t-shirt and a pair of shorts that had Cowabunga written up the side. Her ears got bigger though.....maybe that's what happens as you get older...you shrink into your ears. If they ever invent something that makes us live forever we'll probably just end up as a big pair of ears...with bad hearing.

I know how your feeling mate, My nan is suffering from dementia and i dont see her enough as i should as each day could be the last chance i get to see her and i dont think i could bare it if it got to the point where the time came and i didnt have that last moment with her,
It sad coz each time i do go there, she doesnt know who i am, but i know deep down she does.

my dad comes back in tears EVERY time that must be hard mate. i know when my nan passed on last year she had burst the main blood vessel into her brain and sent her into a coma. She died 4 hours later. I could have gone to see her in hospital with the rest of my family to say goodbye but that isn't how i wanted to remember her. Your situation is slightly similar. p.s. Nans are ace FACT!!! |
