Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o may not play again this year after it was confirmed he has ruptured the meniscus in his right knee.

The Cameroon international sustained the injury while attempting a pass during Wednesday night|s Champions League match with Werder Bremen.

Eto'o was carried off on a stretcher in the 65th minute of the match in Germany and the initial diagnosis of the injury by Barcelona doctor Ricard Pruna has now been confirmed by an MRI scan.

Pruna, who said the injury occurs when there is a sudden change of direction of the knee, commented at the time that 'if this diagnosis is confirmed, he could be out for between two and three months'.

Eto'o, who suffered a similar injury in 2005, will now undergo arthroscopic treatment on Thursday afternoon at the Clinica del Pilar in Barcelona

Good news. I hate Barcelona, and may now give Chelsea a chance.
