That's pretty fucking harsh. What they gonna do? Wait for a few days then jump out at him? "Suprise! You're dad's dead"

I think you'll find his son is probably too young to understand

His son is three, his daughter eight, I think they'll both know what's going on.

I know where Rob T's coming from but I happened to think that Steve Irwin was a cracking entertainer, and educator (if that's a word), an edu-tainer if you like.

His show was ace, he came across as a kinda fella you'd like to go up the pub and have a pint with.  And like I say I find it sad that a globally well like man died before his due date, 44 is no age to go.

It is sad that he has died and I feel sorry for his family and friends....I agree with Rob T's point though. Why do we need it to be headline news?! Okay let people know about it but come on there are much more important things happening at the moment.

Shocked to hear of his death....  Sad

...even more shocked to discover that David Bellamy is still alive    as he commented on the death via BBC News. I thought he was long gone....

I'd have to agree with this.  For example, his death overshadowed this story on every news channel.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/5311464.stm

Four afghan civilians and a British soldier killed in suicide bomb attack in Kabul.

In a separate story, a British civilian has been shot dead in Jordan.  Its a sad state of affairs when these stories get buried by Steve Irwin's death, which, while obvious sad, and devastasting for his family, is not, in my opinion, world news, or British news.

Because the majority of the world aren't aware of who the British civilian is, ok so we heard the guy died, but little to no people are going to say "that bloke who died in Afganistan - fuck me he used to make me laugh, I really enjoyed watching his show, came across as a nice bloke"  Why?  Because we didn't ever see him, or meet him, or hear about him.

Would you really watch the news if all they did was report about "A 84 year old grandmother from Hull died last night in her sleep, after a long battle against cancer, she was a very funny lady, according to relatives..."

Soldiers die every day in the world, sad fact but true.  You become immune, I dare say if a tv personality died every day after a while people wouldn't give a shit, but they don't so when a well known person dies, it makes the headlines.

Well that's my take on it anyway.
