Tarantino is over-rated though. I think Pulp Fiction is quality and I liked Resevoir Dogs alot. Kill Bill was good, but I still haven't got round to watching part 2, so I couldn't have found it that brilliant.

Some other Tarantino films he's been 'associated' with have been truly aweful (Once Upon A Time In Mexico being one) and I hated Jackie Brown.

the achilles bit?

but you don't see him cut it.
only when he tries to walk do you see it split open.
which on reflection was pretty smart but like when he chopped his toes off. it cut away. i was hoping to see it.

maybe i was expecting too much as people had raved on about how good it was etc
i thought you might say that, if you just want to see gore try rotten.com where there's plenty of pictures of blokes who've shot their own heads off, etc.

the idea with cutting away is that the imagination is (or, should be) more powerful than the actual image. ala reservoir dogs when he cuts his ear off - you never see any gore because the camera moves away to a random part of the room at the last minute but many people find it to be one of the worst scenes ever to watch and cannot listen to 'stuck in the middle with you' without wincing at the memory of the scene. masterful use of music and image, tarantinos soundtracks are always top.

Just watched Hostel. I thought it was brilliant. Best horror I've seen in ages.

i still think it is a shockingly shit film

a decent horror film doesn't start off with the first 45 mins just being about tits and sex.

Trauma last night had me cringing more than Hostle did.

in all seriousness it did.
this one chap had broken his ankle which was at 90deg.
the doctor had to pull it and twist it straight before he could do anything. The crunching etc of it was horrid.

Most horror films are shit these days. At least a lot of the older horror films were cheesy enough not to take too seriously or were actually good they did spook you a bit.

IT is my favourite horror film of all time.
