if you were the chairman of a top english team, say, arsenal or liverpool, would you take on eriksson?

i think anyone considering taking him must be mad,

he would demand a huge salary, would fall out of favour quickly with us english fans who demand a bit of amination and passion, bottles it and clueless when things go to shite, plays a formation that doesnt suit the team and all in all is a complete prat

with his style of management and approach to 'tactics' i'd say italy would be perfect for him, where he can defend 1-0 leads all he likes.

International and club management are two totally different animals. You cannot deny that erikksn has got a very good record as a club manager, and for all his critics, has not done to bad as manager of the english side. He took over England when we were bottom of our group, and not looking likely to qualify.  We'd stunk out at euro 200, and only bloody drew with finland for fuck sake. 3 major tournaments, 3 quarter finals. That  loked a mile  off 6 years ago. His tactics are a bit one dimensional, and he is a bit defensive, but his match-by-match record as ebgland manager speaks for itself. If it were a league, then england would be right up there near the top. Like it or not, results wise, Erikson is one of our most succesful managers, and without him, Englad may well not be the team they are at this current moment. My personal opinion is that he stayed on for 1 tournament too many, but overall, he has done alot to change the state of England football for the better.

I dont think his next job will be in this country.

He'll want a big club, and there arnt any jobs available that fit the bill here, nor would he be considered for them if there was.

He's a great manager, but i don't think his heart was in the England job -  i guess it gets annoying when the English media and English fans moan at every decision he makes.

He got England to 3 quarter finals.  The first 2 quarter finals were great results considering England wern't realistically expecting to win the tournament. However the last tourney may have been a bit of a let down, as England had a resonable chance of at least gettiing to the finals.

exactly. whats the bloody point in getting to the QFs?? no awards are given for 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc place. if you dont win the cup, you have failed. simple as that. no team would go to the tournament saying 'oh, we're a bit crap, a QF place would bea great result' you are out there to WIN it.

Crap manager.  We were told endless times about how we could be World Cup Winners.  We did not win it.  Opposite of winning is losing.  Ergo, we are World Cup Losers.

Sir Alf Ramsey won the WC, and then was generally castigated as being a crap manager by media and pundits.....and some fans.

Bobby Robson was vilified by some England fans and press, despite nearly getting to  WC final....and then went on to prove how good he was at a number of clubs

Eriksson's record speaks for itself, but can't see him getting  Chelsea Arsenal Manure or Liverpool, and the other jobs are nowhere, so imagine he'll move abroad.

Slagging off the England manager is a kneejerk habit of Sun readers....when a bit of thought might reveal why we produce such overhyped players with little commitment to the national side.
