I agree Lampard had a shocking tournament, but has to be 2nd biggest flop for me, because at least he found space for all of them wasted efforts.
Ronaldinho was capable of something much more and he's rated much higher than Lampard. Therefore on that basis he's the biggest flop.

I think Gerrard is also amongst the biggest flops *awaits abuse*
He showed flashes of what he's was capable of, albeit for miniscule amount of time. Honestly thought he would be one of the better performers and was going to have a tournament to remember.

in a way you are right, he was a disapiontment.
But Owen & Lampard made him look like a footballing god. At least he scored a couple of decent goals.

I used to know a fella down at Billericay (one of our old managers) who knew Alvin Martin very well. Apparently Alvin Martin always said that if Frank Jr wasn't Frank Lampard Sr's son, he'd never had made it through the ranks at West Ham. A little harsh I feel, but Frank Sr had to go to the Youth Coach/Manager a few times to make sure Franck was kept on at the end of the year.

Gerrard was a flop in terms of not playing as well as we all know he is capable of....however....I think that was down more to our tactics and Gerrard having to curb his attacking nature for Lampard rather than Gerrard being shit Same with Rooney...yes he was crap, but he played upfront on his own after an injury. Ronaldinho and Lampard are supposedly the best two players in the world, big let down.... Henry didnt do as much damage as a player of his quality should

Gerrard was a big letdown, he was crap but Ronaldinho was the biggest flop. He's always been overrated though.

Fucking good job he was kept on though because despite an average world cup he is without doubt one of the world's best players and easily the best player to have played for West Ham in recent years.

I agree with your sentiment Ben, just telling the story as told to me. When he was around the age of 16 he started to concentrate on being that midfielder who made the late burst into the box, then he started scoring and the rest is history. Lucky for the hammers that they kept faith in the Frank Lampards I suppose.

He was runner up in the european player of a year for a reason, he was playing superbly for both club and country and it was his goals that took us to the world cup. He is world class, no question.

Rooney was the biggest flop of the world cup. Sorry, but I expected him to win it for us. Curse my optimism!
