Pav on the way? Jul 4 2006

By The Huddersfield Daily Examiner

TOWN could be set to swap striker Pawel Abbott for highly-rated Franchise utility man Dean Lewington.

Abbott - who finished last season on the bench - is believed to have travelled yesterday for talks with League II Dons' new manager Martin Allen.

Town chief Peter Jackson, who was today completing the signing of hitman Luke Beckett after he successfully completed a medical, was understood to be set to meet with 22-year-old left-sided Lewington.

If the swap goes ahead - the Dons are understood to want a significant fee for Lewington - it will mark the end of a two and a half year stint for Abbott at the Galpharm in which he helped the club clinch promotion from Division III and scored 46 goals in 106 senior appearances.

Last season, however, he started just one match (at Swindon on the final day) in the closing three months of the season and played only as a substitute in the play-off semi-final defeat to Barnsley as Andy Booth and Gary Taylor-Fletcher finished joint top scorers on 15.

If Abbott goes there, I am having a £10 e/w bet on Dons in a top 3 finish.  He's a good player.

This will be in addition to the bet that Town finish higher!

They must be for Mad Dog to go there. I'm slightly concerned now that they may actually do quite well next season

Don't under-estimate the lure of working under a dynamic young manager, for all we take the piss out of him, Mad Dog is no idiot.

Also, look at the length of contracts being offered - most are at least 3 years or more - I dont think they will be paying much more than we are.

On the contrary, despite his goals they never liked him.

Ifil headbutting him was the greatest thing ever, down like a sack of spuds and he wasn't faking it. Nice work Jezza  Cool

I've spoken to people who though he was god. Suppose it's a bit of both aka David Duke. Some loved him and admired his hardwork but most could see he was shit.
