What did everyone think of England in this world cup? Before it started I had alot of optimism but Like I've said in other threads, I don't think it was our time to win it. But the day WILL come one day, of course it will. Good effort yesterday though, you can't knock them for that. The first song that came on the radio this morning was 'the boys are back in town'. It made me smile and I thought about next season. I went into a bar in westbury to watch the game yesterday and I wore my swindon shirt with pride.....but as soon as I walked in some pissed up blokes started singing anti swindon songs and city songs.....and I gave it back. They were a bit thick anyway as they tryed telling me they beat us last season when they so did'nt.....I had the last laugh. I love banter and I can't wait for next season.

I’ve genuinely enjoyed it.
Not so much as 90 and as a neutral I haven’t enjoyed some of the other games quite as much as in recent years but a good tournament all the same and I don’t seem to have the same football hangover that followed 2002 and Euro 2004.
Have to mention the standard of refereeing has been abysmal though. Or more precisely FIFA’s interpretation of what justifies foul play and equally what merits a card.
As a result I think it’s had the opposite effect to the one desired. Games have been ruined, the football has become fragmented and similar to the stop start nature of American football. I just hope they don’t fucking introduce this sin bin idea or I give it six months before were all wearing cunting polystyrene cheeses on our heads.
Optimistic though and itching for the season to start and even the England friendly against Greece in August.
Most of that ‘golden generation’ will still be there for Austria-Switzerland in 2008 and unlike a few of the big teams in this World Cup, the handful of players reaching the end of their International careers should be nicely poised to hand over the baton to the new generation coming through.

I will remember Germany '06 as the World Cup that passed me by. I don't know why, but I just couldn't get into it.
England being shit and me moving house (therefore being pre-occupied by putting up shelves and drilling holes in things and all that stuff) didn't help but I'm still surprised at myself
Sadly, whilst getting rid of a boring, cautious Swede, we've replaced him with a boring, cautious Englishman :?
I can't see things changing on the England front (I nearly said National Front  ) in the forseeable future. I hope I'm wrong.

It was about 10.40 this morning on SS News. he didn't use those exact words but talked about the pay situation and in comparison to others and just thought certainly not the time nor place.

What a disappointing (if predictable) World Cup for England.
Special mention must go to Eriksson for his appalling squad selection and matchday tactics, and to Frank Lampard for continuously bottling it big time on the world stage.
I was so proud of them in the Quarters though. Up against it from the start thanks to their hapless gaffer, they showed great spirit and determination, and i think on effort and sportsmanship alone deserved better. Unfortunately, 10 men and no cutting edge up front meant it was penalties for us again. Now, i've never taken penalties in front of 60,000 people on any occasion, let alone a W.C quarter final, but after 5 weeks of practising, i can't help thinking that everyone out there should be able to pick out the top corner from 12 yards. Anyway, we all know what happened.
I was lucky enough (if you can call it that!) to be there, in the ground for the game, and i can tell you i'd do it all again knowing even what i know now. It's one experience i will never forget.
Onwards we go then. And if there's only a few things we've all learned from this footballing lesson, it's that Hargreaves actually IS worthy of the 3 lions, our support is fucking superb (on the whole), and 5 strikers are essential.
That's all from me.

That's all from me. I have to agree I have changed my mind about him, he has worked his socks off the last 3 games and I felt quite bad for him when I saw him crying at the end, infact it made me cry, but I was pissed

Hargreaves put in 110% and I feel a bit bad for slating him beforehand. Deserves a lot of credit for the majority of his performances and glad he got an of the match against Portugal. I still want to cover Ronaldo in tar and dip him in feathers though.
