Seriously? I don't see why. I think he has done a good job, despite what others may think. He sets a great example in his prfessionalism and his attitude to te game, much like Shearer did.

Terry next?

Lennon played much better than Beckham did yesterday.  Even with ten men, Lennon was still skinning the Portugese for fun.  Beckham is in the side for two things.  Publicity, and set peices (which mostly have been shit this tournament).

Err, you sure?   :?

I'd have said our set pieces have been one of our strengths.

Three of our 6? goals came from Beckham though! He assited in two and scored one for himself!
I think he's a great player. He links up well with Gary Neville and tracks back to help out the defence, which players like Lennon, Joe Cole etc, do not. But thats nothing against Lennon or Joe Cole as they are great players and i think if we were to use the 5 in midfield again, i would go with Beckham, Gerrard and Hargreaves/Carrick in the middle with Lennon/Wright Phillips and Joe Cole - right and left wing  Cool

All credit to Beckham. He was a great captain.
Either Terry or Gerrard should be captain now, me thinks.

Stevie G. 100%. If you ever want a captain's performance to drag a team out of the s**t and back from the dead, he's your man. And he can miss crucial penalties just like Beckham did, so he's got the credentials!

Good move, it means Mclaren is not faced with the difficult decision of handing the captaincy over and it also takes away the pressure and dilemma of picking him ahead of the younger Lennon.

I’m not fond of players retiring early from International football.  Certainly there’s some dignity at going out on top but if you’re intending to play club football for a few more seasons then it should be an honour to represent your country whatever the role or extent of involvement may be.
