New Swindon Town signing Adie Williams has revealed how 'the Dennis Wise factor' tempted him to the County Ground. Williams played alongside the new Robins boss at Coventry last season and was hugely impressed with the former England international.

Once the central defender decided to leave the Sky Blues, he had offers from several clubs.

But when Wise called to talk about a move to Swindon, Williams had no hesitation in making the switch to Wiltshire.

"Coventry have brought in some new players and it was in everyone's interests that I moved on," said Williams. "But I've left on good terms, it was very amicable.

"This is a new chapter in my career and the big plus was Dennis being here.

"I like his ideas and I like his visions. I spoke to Dennis and I know how professional he is having worked with him at Coventry.

"He is meticulous in his preparation and we are already seeing that in his pre-season training plans.

"And we all know what he's like on the pitch. I've played against him many times. He's annoying and irritating, but he's a winner.

"That comes across when you speak to him and he's got that aura about him."

Williams will battle with Sean O'Hanlon and Jerel Ifil for a place in the Town side and added: "I feel in good shape and I was pleased with my form at Coventry last season when I got in the team. We ended the campaign really well and we finished eighth.

"I want to play regularly here. That's why you train hard all week, with the carrot of a game on a Saturday."

Williams was joined at Swindon's training base yesterday by midfielder Curtis Weston, who has been recruited from Millwall. And Wise also confirmed that the Football League have approved the signing of Cambridge striker Fola Onibuje.

"Fola has signed on a three-month deal," he said. "I've given him a chance and he done very well in training so far.

"People have told me he's a bit laid back but that doesn't bother me as long as he is prepared to work hard.

"He's a big lad, he's also very quick and he's good with the ball."

Wise will now set his sights on a new goalkeeper but said: "There's no panic. We've got a goalkeeper from Ajax over here and he's doing okay.

"We've got a couple of other keepers in mind too and we'll be fine." Town have added an extra friendly to their pre-season schedule, with Crystal Palace visiting the County Ground on Sunday, July 23.

Swindon's reserve games will be played at Swindon Supermarine's Hunts Copse ground next season in a bid to protect the first team pitch.

When they win, do you think they dance in the streets of Ajax? You know, the same way they dance in the streets of TNS?

certainly better than average, we'll be lucky to find a keeper as good for next season...

Blackpool is certainly a step up from Swindon, you watch....Blackpool will be at the right end of the division next season....

Blackpol have had huge amounts injected into the club. They could be pushing towards the top end next year if the cash is spent well.
