on bbc swindon this morning
we have signed this guy on a 3 month trial deal after he was released by cambridge at the end of the season
he scored 11 goals
worth a shot i guess as at least the club get 3 months to look at him.
not like opara when they had to cancel the contract and give him false hope
this way the guy knows he has to impress.
would be interested to know how they found out about him
bassett maybe?
Fola Onibuje is a Nigerian football player, currently playing for Nationwide Conference team Cambridge United F.C..
At 6"6' Fola is a giant striker with a real presence on the football pitch. His mazy runs, somewhat surprising considering his size, aerial ability and natural pace (before embarking on a professional football career, Fola represented Great Britain on the athletics field at the 200m and 400m sprints) earned him a contract with Cambridge United for the 2005-06 season after impressing with 3 goals in as many games in pre-season friendlies. This followed unsuccessful spells at Huddersfield Town F.C., Barnsley F.C. and Peterborough United F.C., however having established himself as a first-team player and regular goal scorer at Cambridge, Fola will look to keep his place in the team and push them towards the Football League

this league is gonna be a fucker
and lets face it we have been playing the long ball game for nearly 2 years now from what i have seen
we need a style of play where every member knows what their job is and we have not had that since hoddle i think

He's only on a trial. If he's shit he won't play. if he's good we get a bargain - either way he won't be costing us much more than a packet of crisps each week.

Not a bad move, his height and aerial ability will be priceless in League Two.

So much for Ricky Lambert
If the board are serious about getting out of this division, they will need to splash the cash

If he's quick he'll have another dimension to his game as well. I'm glad he's only a trial player though, and it's good to see that Wise is thinking of options.

Not neccessarily a long-ball donkey as the first post suggests. He's attarcted attention for mazy runs etc. which suggests he's not all about jumping, elbows and flick-ons.
Every season we've had a lad like this, i.e. cost bugger all and might just work out, i.e. Ben Martin, Lloyd Opara, Jon Stevenson. Like Akinfenwa, I bet he'd cause knackered defenders a few headaches coming on with 10 minutes to go.
I'm all for it!

Not very inspiring though is it? Frankly, no. If it was the day before the season started then I would be a bit concerned. But it's not, so I'm not. If you know what I mean :?

Ben Martin Failed. Jon Stevenson Failed. Lloyd Opara Failed. You can see why some fans aren't impressed with the deal though - I wish him all the best and hope he does the business for us.

worth a punt in my view. pace & strength will be an asset.
I hope DW builds a freakish giant of a team that can bully and kick the oposition into submission. I'm so pissed of with watching teamfuls of gutless faggots such as Hewlett, Duke, Cureton, Thorpe play for town.

You have to give the fella some time to be honest.
Just look at Parkin when he joined us. I bet there were a few doubters saying he would be shit etc - but look what he achieved at Swindon.
I think Wise understands what he is doing. Hes got a limited transfer/player budget, and i cant see him signing any odd player for the sheer hell of it. Dont forget Onibuje has only signed on a short term contract basis, so if he is shit - at least we wont be lumbered with him for long.

9 goals in 25 starts in his first season is not to be sniffed at and I’m quite impressed from the club and player’s perspective that he’s signed a three month loan deal and risk ending up into the season without a club
Definitely the opportunity to impress and I can’t help but think that Wise wouldn’t have brought him here if he didn’t think he had a chance of cutting the mustard. By the same token Wise must have had something good whispered in his ear about the lad to have scooped him up so quickly.
Can’t say he’s got me arranging a crescent of jazz mags in an orgy of excitement but at 21 with a bit of height and pace he’s close to a similar ratio to the last player with a bit of height we signed. Rory Fallon, although let’s not jinx him just yet!
