This sort of relates to my "next season" post but deserves its own thread in my view. All been said before probablly but I look at this as an overview of the situation rather than one individual player. Yes I am bored.

At the moment we have 5
The Peaconator
Cureton
Roberts
Lucas J...
Caton

Firstly I'd want 3 1st team strikers with Lucas and Caton competing for the 4th space. keep em hungry and all that.

The Peaconator is a certain starter assuming his knee gets sorted. Will anyone disagree with that?? Lucas is a decent replacement for The Peaconator in my opinion and Caton offers more in the way of pace assuming his not a total crip now after his year from hell.

Now as I've commented for reasons stated in the other thread I'd get rid of Cureton.

I reckon we could raise £50k-£100k ish by selling him and can realistically see a bid of around that figure coming in from a league 1 club. He's already said he wants to go if an offer from higher up the leagues come in so for me its a matter of when not if he gos regardless of what I'd do.

As for Roberts... its a difficult one.  Part of me says me his days are be numbered, however another pary of me says that if he keeps of the booze and gets Iffys uber-pre-season under his belt then we could be looking at the fittest Christian Roberts football has seen for 3/4 years.  In that case at league 2 level we could be looking at a real asset. Particually when you consider how many goals him and the Peaconator scored whilst at shitty in L1. So I'd keep him and give him one last chance to prove himself.

So when Cureton goes who do we get in to replace him? Chris McPhee?? hmmmmm. I'm not sure. I rate him higher than most people seem to. He worked his arse off and had decent movement from what I saw. Can he score goals though? He got a few for Brighton in league 1 so with reasonable service I dont see why he wouldnt in league 2. Short term contract offer perhaps? 6 months?

After that? who knows? I'd have thought someone with pace would make sense as Lucas will provide target mean cover for the cock.

Maybe thats harsh. I've seen him look alright in some games, crap and lost in others. Loan him out to Salisbury, that'll make him good Wink

Lucas has the greatest potential of the 3 youngsters in my opinion

cureton is easily the best forward we have,we should be trying to keep hold of him and playing to his strenghs.ie into feet or working the channels.alot of the time last season long balls were punted aimlessly towards him and that is never gonna work.i like peacock too and hope they are the pair up front for us next season.those two + mcphee and the youth lads will have us a decent crop of forwards.roberts can fuck off as can benj.

if we keep what we have upfront those positions are the least of my worries about the squad

Assuming Curo leaves:

the biggest concern has to be scoring goals! OK it's blatent, but what McPhee, Benjamin, Lucas, Peaconator and Caton have not yet shown is they can score regularily.

I'm not saying they can't, or won't, but it is a risk. Personally I'd like to see a.n.other brought in to play alongside Peacock with Lucas/Caton and Roberts battling for a place (wing or up front)).

I think the midfield needs strengthening, because we weren't exactly creating a shed load really. But with the slide in divisions are we going to attract quality/be allowed to play footy? Al the more reason to find someone to stick aweay the chances when they come.
