Looks like Iffy is almost certainly going to be in charge for the 06/07 season kick-off.

Comments from Bill Power at the weekend seem to substantiate what he stated on arrival.  Plus comments from Iffy himself indicate that he’s not going anywhere.

Final seal has to be that the manager has been given the choice to negotiate contracts on who will stay next season and who’s been shown the door.

Can’t really argue with the decision at all and it’s a swift clean resolution if anything.  Any appointment would have likely been Holloway who rumours indicate he may have priced himself out of a move or resorting to one of the usual suspects on the managerial merry-go-round.

I think you only have to look at Tranmere’s list of candidates you can appreciate that a change of manager without a banker like Holloway lined up is not the best move at the moment.  The three favourites for the post are McAteer, Mark Wright or previously sacked manager John Aldridge.  None exactly inspire confidence.

Hopefully we’ll see some movement on the experienced coach in the next couple of weeks.

I watched sky sports news last night - Ian Holloway was reviewing the watford vs palace game and was asked by the presenters if he was coming back to mamanagement> He said that he has had contact with a couple of friends over a new role

Who knows?

If Iffy is going to be here next season he has showed some positive signs already.  Mainly by tieing up the contract situation sooner rather than later giving himself more time to rebuild and prepare for next season and also according to Seano, far more structured and productive training than under King.

I'd agree 100 percent with the contract situations being sorted out early is a good thing Smiley But i still find it hard to believe all this improved training stuff.

Why? Iffy's sister is an athlete and he knows plenty of people in athletics. I would have thought Iffy is ideally placed to sort out the fitness situation.

We haven't seen much evidence of this improved training regime though have we?It didn't help keep us up for instance Sad Plus all the stuff we hear about some of the players dinking habits doesn't suggest to me that there is much emphasis on staying fit. Also call me a cynic, but i can't see Seano admiting that the training is no good to fans.
Anyway i'm behind Iffy, and like Dazza says at least we know now.

Maybe all the improved training in world doesn't stop people from not being good enough!

Anyway, he's talked about bringing in Katherine Merry to help with the fitness and lifestyle side of things.  I suppose mid season there is only so much you can do.

From todays WDP.....

Quote

Bill Power has moved to crush rumours that Swindon Town have spoken to Ian Holloway about a managerial role at the club. Former QPR and Bristol Rovers boss Holloway is out of work and is good friends with ex-QPR chairman and new Swindon director Power.

Speculation has suggested Holloway could be brought in to work with, above or instead of current Swindon boss Iffy Onuora.

There were even reports that Holloway was due to attend Town's final game of the season last Saturday, although in the event he was at Bristol Rovers' match with Macclesfield.

The charismatic Bristolian is understood to have been interviewed for a job in recent weeks, though not at Swindon.

And Power, who will invest an initial 1million into Swindon, said he had no immediate plans to offer his old friend a position at the County Ground.

"I am very friendly with Ollie but we have not discussed Ollie coming to Swindon at all, " said Power last night.

"The most important thing in Ollie's life at the moment is preparing for the Edinburgh Marathon, which he is running for charity, and that's all I have been chatting to him about.

"And he wasn't at the game on Saturday. I heard all those rumours and I think someone is having a laugh.

"I have not said one word to him about Swindon Town Football Club - there is no discussion going on about that.

"He is a friend of mine and a good man but we are not trying to slip him in the back door." Asked if there was any chance Holloway could be approached in the future, Power said the club's hierarchy had been busy discussing the best way forward following relegation to League T wo.

And he said that Onuora would probably join those discussions tomorrow.

Power said: "Myself, Mark Devlin, Mike Diamandis and Sir Seton Wills have been sat in discussions for the last week trying to work out what is the best thing for Swindon Town Football Club.

"But like everything, the more the committee talks about it, the more it gets vague and unmanageable.

"We are trying to cover every little angle so we hit the floor running next season. We want to make sure everything is right, because if it is not, we will get hammered, and rightly so.

"We have not had a chance to sit down with Iffy yet because he has been buzzing around sorting things out with the players.

"But that's the next thing on the list and will probably happen on Friday." When it was suggested that all the signs indicated that Onuora would remain in place for next season, Power replied: "Totally. We need to sit down and tell him our plans and listen to h i s.

"But in terms of Ollie, we would not go behind Iffy's back like it has been suggested we have. We would not do that to him."

Ok so BP won't go behind Iffy's back, but he didn't deny he may speak to Ollie about it post Edinburgh Marathon.

So Iffy'll be in place next season, and if we get Ollie in, which BP doesn't dismiss, it won't be "behind Iffy's back".  Fair enough.

He's left it all nice and open there hasn't he?

He has not said, "Iffy will definitely be our manager next season and Holloway definitely will not"

If I was putting in a load of cash into a club I know I would want my own man in charge.

I can still see him coming.

Agreed, BP could have quite easily have come out and backed Iffy 100% said we have no intention of bringing Ian Holloway here, but he didn't.  If you glance over the article you're likely to be disappointed, but if you read the words he uses it's a very good example of "we'll see".
