HOW DO YOU LOOK BACK AT YOUR TIME AT SWINDON?

It was a tough job because we went through three administrations while I was there, but that's no excuse. You have your chance and you have to make the most of it. We reached the play-offs two years ago and lost to Brighton and even Mark McGhee admitted we were by far the better side. At the end of the day, during my spells at Mansfield and Swindon, I spent £260,000 on players and sold players for £1.8 million.

ARE YOU LOOKING GET BACK INTO THE GAME STRAIGHT AWAY?

Yes, because I miss it so much. It would be great to be given the chance to revive a sleeping giant like Nottingham Forest or Bristol City, but unfortunately, you don't get the choice – you take whatever opportunities arise and make the most of it.

New Man Appointed Tomorrow

Quote
Posted By neilr On 2nd May 2006 @ 16:47

The club have announced a press conference for 10.30 tomorrow morning, to introduce the new manager.

There have not, as yet, been any leaks of the possible name, although the speed of the appointment does suggest a man out of work and not too far away.

The bookmaker’s favourites list would seem to be the most likely place to find the name of the new man, assuming Bonser does not want to start riots by re-appointing Merson, so take your pick from:-

Keith Curle, Ian Atkins, Paul Hart, Mick Harford, Gary Megson, Andy King, Colin Lee, Chris Nicholl, Graham Rix, Steve Claridge, Ray Graydon, Simon Osborn, Mark Kinsella, Martin O’Connor and Mick Halsall!

Although not been as argumentative with it as bwb has been, if you look back through the threads then you'll see my consistant pro-kingness.

Think it's best to look back at him as a good manager who did a lot for us and was sacked due to poor results after not really being given a chance to bring players in over the summer.

The dude might have been a quick to speak his mind, but I liked that about him. I hope he get's given a chance in football again.

That pre-season friendly home to Oxford, in retrospect, seems significant (0:3).  After the game, he tried to strengthen on the left, Nicolau, and somebody else I can't think of.

However, we were relegated because we lacked a holding midfield player.  Later, despite all King's efforts he wasn't able to sign the player to fill the gap,... Smith (to Walsall), Jones (to Grimsby) etc etc.

A big mistake, of course, was putting the money into Cureton and Thorpe, money that should have gone to midfield.  Fallon wasn't expected to do great things, but he did.  The assumption was to replace Sam Parkin's goals and we would be okay, but Sam brought much more to the team than just his goalscoring.

When results were gained by bypassing midfield by using route one to Fallon, he was off to Swansea.  Another turning point was the Forest debacle.  It was changes after that every game.

With even more hindsight, if King had brought in managerial help the week before he left the club, the new face might have delayed the execution, and it might have been turned around.  The conclusion is that King leaving did nobody any good, except that more players seem willing to stick around for the next season.  We lost about the best scout in the business, an almost decent manager and a PR disater.  I hope King gets another chance, but keep the microphone away fro him.

I remember Richard Money playing for Liverpool (very much a bit part player) and Fulham.

Then to all intents and purposes he disappeared off the face of teh earth, only to reappear it would seem, at the Bescott Stadium

He will be either spectacularly good or unbelievably bad. I don't see any middle ground with this appointment.

While agreeing with much of what you write, that event was little more than a kick about up at Wanborough.....our players didn't even wear kit, there was no ref and time outs were regularly called.

I recall him as a Scunthorpe player in the early to mid 70's.

His move to Liverpool didn't really work out, he only played a dozen times.

Seems to have been working in Sweden.
