One Mr Power tried to sign a while ago for the Town.

"We (Swindon) recently put an offer in for (Cheshunt striker) Jermaine Beckford but he wanted to go to a higher level and good luck to him.

"We are not suddenly going to spend a million pounds on a player. But if there are players that will improve the squad that we can afford, we can move for them.

35 goals in 40 games and eventually signed for Leeds.  Certainly one that got away, however although the fee was eventually undisclosed the fact we are competing on that level against Leeds, Palace and Watford is a breath of fresh air.

Not getting carried away but the fee is rumoured to be 200k.

I think that's a tad inflated but never the less.

:? that was probably him getting to know the club, and sorting out a sort of plan of what he wants to acheive. Do you have any evidence of this, or is this just a rumour?

He's been in negotiations about coming onboard for the past 4 months or so.

Look at the date that Beckford joined Leeds if we (Power & club) were looking at the same player then it would indicate as SwindonTownFC said that he's been here for some time .

Talking to a Leeds fan today and he thought it was around half that amount with additional to follow based on appearances.

Still good stuff all the same.

i got the impression that power's sudden appearance was so he could pay off kingy. if the club had come out and said he'd been paid off, everyone would have been understandably suspicious.
