Ralphy, you may also be interested in the Civic Type RR which will be launched shortly after. Rumours around the factory of a 2.4 litre engine.

Type RR is purely a rumour. Why would Honda butcher the Type R name? Type R is traditionally Honda's road legal racing car brand. Why would they release a car that dininishes the Type R name? I have good sources by the way. Type R owners club

Not wishing to get above myself here, but as an Honda employee with direct links to the training team I can assure you that there will be a Type RR. Ironically the new 2.2 Diesel Civic I have is slightly quicker than the outgoing Type R!

Ironically the new 2.2 Diesel Civic I have is slightly quicker than the outgoing Type R! Ummm not meaning to be rude but your wrong on so many levels. A Type R would butcher the new diesel Civic with ease. It has a 0-60 time of over 8 secs and 0-100 is roughly 25 secs. A Type R does 0-60 in 6.4 secs and 0-100 in 16 secs. So in a drag style race it would be a severe ass raping but then we come to the handling. The Type R is a good 200 kg lighter than the diesel with sports suspension and would hammer it around a race track or twisty b road. Also the diesel civic has 140 bhp and weighes roughly 1350 kg. The Type R has 197 bhp and weighes 1200 kg. You do the maths, the power to weight ratio is far superior. As for the mythical Type RR, your sources are Honda employees right? Mine is an admin guy from the Civic Type R owners club who has direct links with Honda UK and attended a meeting with them in 2004 about what people want from the next Type R. Rant over.

I love it when people try to justify their points by blinding us with figures and ratio's etc..
Ralphy i'm not disputing anything you say. The old Type R was and still is probably one of the best handling machines I have ever had the pleasure of driving, far superior on fronts over my previous Golf GTI and Focus ST170. Like you I can't wait for mass production of the new Type R to begin in Swindon later this year (along with all the other 3 door versions) and look forward to having one myself when they get released on sale.
Getting back to what I said in my previuos post about how quick the new diesel 2.2 was I think you may have taking that the wrong way. For sure the old Type R would win 0-60 and around any given race circuit, however at the test track at Swindon the fastest time is currently held by the previous Type R (Jap version). The new deisel surprisingly pipped second place so I am told by the test track workers.
Ralphy have you taken any of the new Civics for a test drive yet from Fish Brothers? They really are a market leader and make the current market of Focus, Astra and Corollas look so out of date!

Driven the 1.8 Petrol and 2.2 Diesel, impressed with layout of dash and striking looks. Not impressed with performance of 1.8 petrol. Diesel was very torquey but ran out of puff at about 4500 rpm like all oil burners. Got my April issue of Evo through the post today, big page spread on new Type R.
