 Doomed?

I think he's been stitched up there a bit in that article but it goes just go to highlight the nature and lack of information out there that's leading to inaccurate articles and letters being published.

I'm not even sure myself now but were the initial proposals to which this article refers not vetoed by the council weeks ago?

As I understood it the club are due to come up with a new set of proposals in the next month or so.  But unless the club are allowed to build 'out' to a degree the whole development is unlikely to ever get off the ground or be feasible enough  to generate the sort of external revenue to both the club and investors.

Tomorrow in the Adver I hear they're seeking the opinion of STFC Internet forum celebrity Yeovil Red on the pedestrianisation of Norwich city centre.   :?

Would have been a much better read if Gary had revealed his plans for the county ground redevelopment.  Can anyone find his original post going on about building a wall around the ground, painting the seats red in the Arkells etc?

The original proposals were sent back with questions, not sure if the club responded or not, but I think they did.

The article is pretty spot on with the facts as they are (although the headline makes it seem worse than the article actually is, but then it's written by two different people in a paper).

There is an opportunity for much more concentrated development to take place, and by footprint it means the areas not marked as public space I think.  That means the Car Park, small stretch of land behind the Arkells and the Startton Bank corner.  The land between the Nationwide and the Magic Roundabout and the land between the car park and County Road/magic roundabout.

That is a fair size when you look at it, and 5 storey plus development would bring in significant developer pounds.  Norwich and Leyton Orient have both used this method.

The clubs proposals include just low rise housing by looking at them, which is not necessarily the only way to make money from housing.

The club did mention they have sent e-mails to every individual Councillor this week.  The problem will be using the "green spaces" which for the majority of Councillors is a no go, and also goes against planning guidelines (which means it would probably not get permision even if they liked it).

Are these still technically what's on the table then Rob?

I'm sure, although I could be very much mistaken and dreamt it all that the initial proposals that the article refers to were thrown out weeks ago by a council motion.

As I understood it the club are due to go enter discussions and come up with a new plan of attack in the next month or so?

sweet jesus. :-))(

As reg says the adver stoops to a new low by basically just asking an ill informed supporter what he'd do and dressing it up as a story

wankers, all of em :wanker:

No new proposals from what I know.  Still haggling over the legality of using the "open spaces" and the money raised from that.

Why don't they just build a wall around the ground to create the illusion of a new stadium?

Oh yes you're right it's suggested here:

Paint the outside of the stands or put brick behind them to create the illusion it is a new stadium

Good idea though.

I would like to make it clear that the above idea was not mine and I was in no way responsible for any part of it.

- repave the whole car park

- widen the concourses in the Arkells and Nationwide stands

- Make the stadium gates wider and more accessible

- Paint the outside of the stands or put brick behind them to create the illusion it is a new stadium

Those were the days!
