also, don't forget that HMRC have been extremely patient up until now.

i wouldn't think they'd be too impressed to wait all this time for their money, and then have someone try and strike a deal with them.

Let's remember that Fitton is doing the negotiating and not the old sack of shite so i'm still confident. Fitton knows what he's doing.

As for the manager well that's anyone guess really isn't it?

I have a suspicion that it is a manager who is currently employed, because otherwise what harm would their be in naming the new person!

That's my understanding Lebowski.

Fitton does not want to pay £xm off to the tax man think everything's rosie, only for the tax man to come back in a few months asking for more money.

He wants to know what is owed before taking official control of the club and like you say the HMRC cannot give these kind of guarantees.

And he wants to negotiate a payment profile that keeps the Revenue happy but enables him to pay over as long a period as possible.

The problem is, if I understood what Mr Fitton said on BBC RS this morning, its a case that right now they don't have the authority to appoint said new manager until the deal is fully complete. Which is likely to be next Friday. Hopefully....

Maurice Malpas (sp ?)  - former NI U21 manager I thin was apparently at the game today and speculation around the ground is that it is him with Byrne as No 2.
