I didn't hear these Martin Keown rumours. An odd name to make up really.

I totally agree Steve that is a fucking worrying prospect. I dont really understand what the problem is with the HMRC. We owe them money, its part of the debt he has taken on, they need their money, the consortium have lots of money so 3 or 4 Million SHOULD be peanuts to them. I have heard its to do with staggered repayments to the HMRC but why not just pay them outright? Confused slightly by this.

I originally thought it could be to do with negotiating the penalty surcharges, which would be 15% of the tax liability (hence why we have got up to £3m+ owed) but the installments thing does make sense.
We must be losing hundreds of thousands to HMRC in each period in default interest alone :?

This is beginning to confuse me slightly.
Surely it's just a case of we owe x amount, we need to pay x amount. What is there to talk about? Fitton was banging on about how much money his backers had, put your money where your bloody mouth is then! With the kinda money he's mentioning, why can't they pay them off?
Concerning, although I'm still confident this will go ahead.

we do owe x amount, but there may be further liability on this, or more debt uncovered when our accounts are finally up-to-date.
i am guessing, in true internet style, that fitton wants guarantee that once he's paid off the tax man then we start with a clean slate.
i don't think HMRC rules allow that though. they don't do deals.

That's my understanding Lebowski.
Fitton does not want to pay £xm off to the tax man think everything's rosie, only for the tax man to come back in a few months asking for more money.
He wants to know what is owed before taking official control of the club and like you say the HMRC cannot give these kind of guarantees.

so, he will either have to bite the bullet and take the risk, or he will pull out.
