It took us 11 games to get 2 league wins last season (Cheltenham away in mid October).

Well that's pretty unambiguous and consistent about Smith.

Thanks again nmh

I like the look of the (admittedly very early) table. 6th.

2 from 3 with two away games is a pleasing start, without having played all that well, outside of patches here and there. I think most of us would have settled for that.

Agree there is plenty attack wise we are capable of, hasn’t really clicked often enough yet but we are Looking more dangerous when we attack. 6 different league scorers already is a nice thing as well.

Defensively we are conspicuous in being that high up the table, having already conceded 5 goals. Have to go all the way down to 20th for a worse defensive record.

Don’t think we will see many clean sheets this season, probably will be quite entertaining though. Outscore the other lot about 20 more times, and we will go up.

Great win. Very happy.
Felt that we could have played with a tad more patience when on top in the first half.
Try & work better crossing positions & not lump it in from poorer angles.

Looked a bit sluggish before the subs.

Usual Cross Country train cancellation madness.
Managed to find one heading in the general direction of the beautiful south.
A bonus couple of pints in the Piccadilly Tap.
Will hopefully make it back before the Barnet game.

we look tired already

One thing I've noticed about times when managers have worked hard on getting the team uber fit in pre-season like Macari and Di Canio era, the whole late goals/strong finish thing doesn't really happen until mid way through the season and towards the end. At the start of the season, you look tired late in games.

I'm hoping that is what is happening here.

Great night out Friday in city centre. Topped off by a decent matchday experience in the sun. Liked what I saw although we did go off the boil in the second half but I put that down to the conditions, our early energy and Latics had to make a fist of it at some point.

My score prediction of either 2-2 or 1-3 to Town nearly came to pass.

Journey home 2 1/2 hrs, getting up there was just over 4.

Two very winnable home games coming up.

A few bits from the Oldham forum.

It seems that some of our fans dont appreciate the assets that we have in Ripley and Smith going by some of these comments.

Quote from: Oldham Forum
I love Mikey but Quigley is a much better footballer.
But neither were a patch on their No 10.

Very good point on their number 10. Thats how you play the big man up front position. He was a menace throughout, and just latched on to Sutton at every opportunity he could. Their number 20 was class 1st half too. Worryingly their best midfielder was out today, and whilst we of course have injuries, it still shows our squad is still short on quality.

Thought ripley looked very dodgy throughout.

How? Looked pretty assured to me. Our forwards were annoyingly slow to close him down when he was running down the clock by not picking the ball up.

I thought the same, hardly troubled him. His Shithousery was second to none

Maybe but only 1 went past him all game, Switch him with Hudson and we'd of won and been top shithouses

After looking at other results in league two today, I think we can most definitely count the previous draws gained as very good results and Swindon are another of those side's expected to be there or there abouts.

Swindon had the whole of midfield to themselves, with hardly a tackle coming in.

Players need to know what their jobs are from minute 1 and execute it. Swindon players knew it from minute 1.....Ours didn't. It took 30 mins for them to begin to understand what they were trying to do. Realistically we could have been 4-0 down by then.

It was too easy for Swindon who looked quicker than us all over the park.

For context, I watched the highlights of Oldham's previous home league game which was against Colchester.  Oldham should have scored at least three after going behind launching an incredible, sustained airborne attack.  Swindon dealt with Oldham's attacks extremely well in comparison, so don't worry about not keeping a clean sheet.  Just be happy that the away trip to Oldham is out of the way with three points in the bag.  I expect the next team to play at Boundary Park, which is Gillingham, to get a good battering and will be happy to leave with a point.  So, please don't underestimate Ripley or Smith's essential contributions, or those from the rest of the team.

FWIW I never underestimate what they both bring to the team but it seems some fans think they may not be up to it for us, for me they are the spine of the team with Wright and Clarke (normally).

Smith is our only proper  goalscoring striker until Princewill or Tabor prove themselves.

I get we go long too often at times, I get playing differently may be the key to unlocking others.

But even though 300k would be fair I still think losing him would be a disaster. Reassuring that the club feel the same. I'm surprised so many fans were fine with the prospect of selling.

Ripley didn't look as assured as normal yesterday, but he's a decent keeper at this level. We've seen that. I'm pretty sure Mildy didn't de-program him over the summer.

Post match Ollie seemed to suggest Ripley was not fully fit still from Tuesdays game. Could be to do with that.

Nice to see complimentary, and honest, comments about us, for a change, noting that we are a good side who should be up there challenging this season. Maybe a few on here should take note 😉
