Looks to me like we are playing 5 in the middle, just so Beckham keeps his place, get him out and Gerrard. Get Carrick to hold and Defoe up front

This is exactly the post I was gonna make. In fact, I'll do it too:

I was reading on the 606 board a couple of weeks ago a thread where loads of people were saying that Lampard and Gerrard can't play together so lampard should be dropped as he's overrated anyway.

Absolute bollocks in my opinion, Lampard is not overrated at all, it was no coincidence he won the football writers player of the year award last year he was outstanding and he must play.

I agree that Carrick would seem more suited to the holding midfielder role but 4-5-1 is not necessarily a bad formation, seems like Sven wants to play exactly the same formation Chelsea play and they use it to devestating effect with a number of the same players, it doesn't have to be boring or negative and with Joe Cole and Wright-Phillips on the wings it shouldn't be, loads of very attacking players.

Just unsure about Beckham's role.

Beckham may be OK in that role, spraying the ball out to either wing for w-p's and cole - can't see him hunting the ball down and breaking up too many attacks though, which is surely the main role of the deep midfielder with this formation?

Lampard isnt over-rated but him and Gerrard havent played that well when partnered together in the middle.

Beckham played well in central midfield when asked to do a job there for Real Madrid, not spectacular but good enough. I'd doubt his ability to play a holding role though.

I don't think he could hold a roll and kick a ball  :?

I'd have started Defoe up front in a 4-4-2.

I agree with that, Defoe scores for fun in The Premiership so i dont know why Sven has suddenly lost faith in him?, although its different when Beckham plays crap week in week out, that armband gurantees his place....

Is it just me, or has Wright-Rubbish not done a thing yet this season either?  Don't think his recent form can justify him a place if he hardly gets a game.

Despite hardly playing for Chelsea this season, he's got a fair few assists.

He is well worth is place, he will add something England havent had in years, natural width

Trouble is Tottenham dont seem to have that much faith in him either-he rarely starts an away game.

I thought that it was a fairly easy win for England, should've been 2 or 3 nil really, Rooney was unlucky not too score and I didn't think Wales really looked like much of a threat.

Good win, formation worked ok, not sure about some of the subs. Wright-Phillips looked dangerous before he was taken off.

Wales were crap, i dont know what they're are going to do on Wednesday as Hartson is suspended for their next game which means no more long balls.

I thought Sam Ricketts played well, this time last year he was playing non-league for Telford
